I have horrible restless legs that are also during the day and now in my right arm. I am going NUTS. I started 0.25mg ropinirole and am up to 3mg (1.5 yrs). I'm now getting ready to increase even more. I know this medication has adaptation and I want to stop taking it. I started 200mg gabapentin x3days an no relief at all. I have lost a lot of hours of sleep and ended up taking my Requip to calm down, which took a couple hours. It's horrible. Please tell me the gabapentin will eventually work? I would love to be able to sit for awhile and get some of my life back.
Does it take a while for gabapentin to build up in system and work?

Hi Brayle123! I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with RLS. I definitely agree with MarieMarie's response that you need to give the gabapentin some time to work. A lot of these medications need to be taken for a while to get a high enough blood level of it established before you get the maximum affect. Also, your dosage is pretty low, and your doctor will likely raise it once you can tolerate what you are currently on. One of my family members, who has severe RLS also, takes 600 mg of gabapentin three times a day. This person also takes 1 mg of clonazepam twice a day with it. If you don't get some relief within a few weeks I would recommend talking with your doctor about increasing your dosage and/or adding another medication that may boost the effects and help you get some much-needed rest and get your life back. Hopefully you will post back soon that you have found something that is working for you! Best of luck!
Your gabapentin will work, it might just take maybe two weeks for it to build up in your system... you are also on a low dose, which your Dr may plan on raising once you adjust to the medication. Hang in there! I know restless legs can be really trying! ❤️
Thank you for responding. My Dr increased dose to 300 mg@ dinner and 600mg@ bedtime. There is some improvement - except for last night. Ugh! I found an RLS Dr and see him this month. Thanks again.
I am glad to hear you are mostly doing better! Good health to you! ❤️
