... shelf life is exceeded? I had several doses left from a previous bout with diarreah in 2007 years ago, and just experienced another bout, and had about six doses left. The bottle said to use before a given date in 2007. I took them anyway as I was desperate and within one day I experienced great relief with no apparent side affect.

Answers
The shelf life/expiry date is usually on the original bottle somewhere.
Beyond this date the manufacturers can no longer guarantee that the medicine will be safe and effective.
What you have is experienced is often the case but with some medicines they do deteriorate with time and are less effective.
