Hi, Maria!
How long have you been taking your Lexapro?
Everybody is different in their response to this type of medication and what works for one may be too little or too much for another person. 5mg is a low dose but if it controls your symptoms then it's right for you. You should know after about 4-6 weeks or sooner if it's working to your satisfaction but if your symptoms are still bad then you'll need to consider a dosage increase.
Discontinuing the medication should be a slow taper back down under your doctor's directions. If you go slowly you shouldn't have any major problems.
If at any point in time you decide to stop the medication do not stop abruptly or you'll probably have discontinuation symptoms. Many people think that when they feel better they can stop the medication. It works for some but other people often have a recurrence of their original symptoms. Let your doctor help you decide.
I'm sorry, Marla, for getting your name wrong. Not wearing my glasses. LOL
