Then restart a taper at a slower rate?
Has anyone had to dose back up from a taper of gabapentin, after horrible withdrawals?

I attempted a gabapentin taper. I was on a dose of 1200 mg 3 times a day for anxiety, not pain. My doctor reduced it to 1100 mg 3xday for 2 weeks, then 1000 mg for 2 weeks, 900 mg for 2 weeks. At that point I was miserable - anxiety, depression, irritable, loss of appetite, no interest in the usual things, depressed mood, stayed home and didn't dress. I felt bad physically and mentally. Later I realized there were some cognitive issues. I had brain fog and problems communicating. My doctor returned me to the original dose of 1200 mg 3 x day. But the symptoms continued! Then she changed my antidepressant. Slight improvement. Then she added Mirapex, off label drug for anxiety. Eventually it worked. I suffered for a full year from this attempted gabapentin taper. My new doctor told me that a second taper would be easier. Frankly, I don't know if I believe her. Has anyone out there had a more successful second taper of gabapentin?
My wife was on 600 mg every three hours for trigeminal neuraliga , you need to slowly detox from this lower the amount . I would ask doctor for a plan and you can also talk to a pharmacist . My wife slowly reduced the amount every two weeks for 3 months . Taper is the safest way . Do not know the amount you were taking and for how long . Good luck to you . Hope this helps .
I have trigeminal neuralgia too, was curious what she is taking in place of the gabapentin, which I would love to ditch. Good luck to your wife.
I had terrible withdrawal after tapering off gradually, nausea, headache, blurred vision, just awful. Lasted 30 days. Then I realized I truly needed the gabapentin to ward off the pain, so I increased to 1200mg daily, which so far I am tolerating & it’s working on the pain. If & when I try to stop again, I think I’ll need to go to rehab.
Yep.. That's real close to where I'm at now. Had to work my way back up by Dr.'s orders, to 3000mgs. to end the sickness with double vision, and this week my double vision is returning, I'm sure I'll be right back to 3600mgs. a day. Back where I started. My new Dr. said to stay awhile, then try to reduce 100mgs a month. That's a long haul, just hope I can do this. To top it off new Dr. said the Carbamazepine That works on the Trigeminal pain, is helping to make me dehydrated. When I would get really sick I couldn't eat or drink for days on end, got severely dehydrated, was hospitalized for 2 days to get a sodium drip. I am really going to pay the consequences of taking more of this stuff as it stopped working. If anyone is reading this DO NOT take higher amounts of Gabapentin, if it's not working find something else ! I found Carbamazepine too late. I will pay the price for believing I could just take more and more !
