I take 6 mg a day. 3 2 mg bars. Is this dose safe? I don't take any other drugs except seroquel 200 mg at night and I sleep like a log.

Yes it is safe if you've been on it for awhile and it is what the doctor recommends. When I was in the hospital the Drs gave me 8 mg a day as well kept me on 8 mg at home. I would think klonopin would be a better choice for long term use as it stays in your system longer unlike xanax which is a short acting benzo.

I forgot to mention: taking alprazolam (xanax) together with quetiapine (seroquel) may increase side effects such as dizziness and drowsiness; however if you're taking them at bedtime you should be fine, but sometimes the grogginess can still be felt the next morning so be careful.

What is the amount prescribed for you? Safe depends on the Dr's instructions and awareness of all the meds you're taking and other facts about your health, diet, presence of alcohol, etc. Unique from person to person.

The max maintenance dose is 4 mg a day. How long have you been on it? You might do better with something like klonopin, or one of the other meds to prevent anxiety, rather then trying to treat it all the time.

8 mg has been verified my Doctors medicine guidline printed monthly and this is for maintenance users.

If people wein themselves down they will be surprised that 1 mg or even peaches .5 with work. Especially for anxiety. Panics I would do 1-2 for instant relief. But it's OK to have some anxiety. Humans are supposed too.

12894 Yes as long as taken like the doctor has prescribed your within the dose range i was upto 8 mg daily years ago for my agoriphobia it requires higher doses and yes you here people freak out because with some conditions you have no choice but to be on higher doses when i was on that dose it was for almost 15 years we have been able to get it down some now but everyone is different and the way the drug works for us don't listen to other people listen to your doctor different people require different amount and i have never had problems when we have lowerd or up'd the dose you take it right there is a big difference between addiction and dependent They have found to that those of us that really require these dose are just so glad that they can do things that they could not and funtion pretty normal abuse is the last thing in our mind due to the fact you finally have something that is working for you..Good luck and hope it keeps working for you.

They tried to take me off them (new doctor took over) when they got down to 2 mg a day, they switched me to Ativan 1 mg 2x daily. I panicked so bad and often that I was well known in the ER (Kaiser ER). I am now back onone 2 mg bar in the am and one in the evening. I fee like I have been through a lot of crap just to be back to where I was. stupid doctors.

Xanax DEPENDING on what it is being used for has a very wide range of dose.and very few people need to go over 4 mg per day in a study i was in was when i was on the higher dose..And this dose is ONLY for true Agoraphobia patients not just general anxiety or panic attacks but when i was at my worst was the 8 never did have to go higher but with xanax its this.Panic Disorder
The successful treatment of many panic disorder patients has required the use of XANAX at doses greater than 4 mg daily. In controlled trials conducted to establish the efficacy of XANAX in panic disorder, doses in the range of 1 to 10 mg daily were used. The mean dosage employed was approximately 5 to 6 mg daily. Among the approximately 1700 patients participating in the panic disorder development program, about 300 received XANAX in dosages of greater than 7 mg/day, including approximately 100 patients who received maximum dosages of greater than 9 mg/day.
Occasional patients required as much as 10 mg a day to achieve a successful response. However these days im on Klonopin 2 mg 3 to 4 Daily and the doctors say with my condition i well more than likely not every be off of it but they really watch close for abuse..which i don't have that problem they get upset with me because i always try to take less. But most the time people that require high doses of xanax they put them on klonopin due to the longer life and can get by with less. I have now been on Klonopin for 10 to 12 years and prior to that Xanax is what saved my life nobody should have to live in 24 hour panic attacks i could barely make it out of the house after i crushed my legs and was in a 1/2 body cast for 6 months..when you can't get away it was like being trapped between the cars.
