My pain starts from lunch time, roughly 2pm on-wards. I was taking amitriptyline at night time before bed but should I be taking it before the pain starts?

Take it 1hour before bed. I would not recommend taking it at any other time as the sedative can be quite strong and can leave you feeling like a zombie all day if its taken before. I take 50mg every night for back pain and it works really well.
The medication needs to be taken consistently every night to feel any of the benefits. You should start to feel the effects 4-6 weeks in. I know this is a long time, but please persevere. Amitriptyline has been a lifesaver for me.
Hope this helps.
