Doctor has given me Ambien 10 mg to start ... worked for two weeks then nothing ... so called Doc and she gave me the CR 12.5 mg. that has done nothing not even first time ... what is a person to do to try and get some sleep? I thought about asking her about getting a scrip for Rozeram, but I'm just don't know what to take :( HELP!
Ambien not working, should I try rozeram, any advice please?

Doc agreed with me and is calling in some Rozeram :) Here's to hopefully sleeping tonight!!! WISH ME LUCK!
Added 19 June 2012:I find out that now I need a pre-auth from my insurance for it to cover this ... so I asked the pharmacy to only fill 10 tabs until I see if the pre-auth goes through which would then cover 50% ... $65.00 for 10 TABS ... ouch, but at least I can see if it will even help me ...
Added 20 June 2012:I'm so glad so far that I pushed for the Rozerem ... I took one at about a half hour before bedtime (and had to tell hubby no Vitamin V (Viagra) until I can figure out how this stuff will work for me ... lol ... I went to sleep really quickly and only awoke once and rolled over and slept until our alarm went off at 4:30 AM .. yes 4:30 AM ... we dairy farm ... I went back to sleep and got up on my own at 7 AM which is my normal wake up time ... so far so good ... but it's only been one night ... but it's good news :)
Added 21 June 2012:Rozerem ... and have taken it for 2 nights and so far ... better sleep ... first night really good ... only one wake up ... last night not quite as good. But, it might be because hubby didn't get home until an hour and half after I had taken it ... I should have just went to bed but I waited up for him, he was out hunting. So last night wasn't quite as good but I'm hopeful.I was quite unhappy when I went to bed also as hubby had said he had hoped to not get home quite as late ... and he did ... not entirely his fault and I should have just went to bed ... but we have been married 21 years and I never have gone to bed before him ... :( I told him we have got to figure something out, I need my sleep but I need him also ... I don't want him to give up his hunting and of course it's night hunting ... lol ... coon hunting ... can't do it during the day and it is literally his only outside activity ... we dairy farm so he's here 24/7/365 ... so I don't want to take it from him or sound needy/clingy or be a pain ... perhaps I should just go to bed and figure I will be a much happier/easier person to be around if I am getting some rest versus the opposite ... or is it just me that gets uber-grouchy when I can't sleep? :)

So interesting running across this question. I have an rx for Rozerem too waiting for me at the pharmacy but was wondering if it's going to be worth the $200. they're going to charge. My insurance is also an issue. Ambien works for me perfectly but I'm trying to get off it bc I'm going thru Celexa wd and it being in the benzo family I'm thinking it's probably contributing to my depression & withdrawal issues. I don't really know for sure. I have to see anyway if I'm better w/o it. BUT I gotta sleep too. So you said it worked for you? $200. is ALOT. If it DOES work I'm going to have to get an authorization too. Starting out with 10 is a good idea. I'm wondering if anything will work as well as Ambien?
There is no generic thus the cost for Rozerem ... I would see if your pharmacy would just sell you 10 until you can see if it's what you want ... especially if you have to wait for insurance auth. I just didn't care for Ambien ... it worked for me for 2 weeks and then nothing ... so I asked for the CR took it three nights and didn't sleep at all ... so I was back to square one ... and asked for Rozerem ... so far one night and one tablet and I did sleep ... we'll see how it goes :)
anyone else take Sonata? Opinions?
Celwxa is a terrifying drig. How aew you now?
Hello SandraLHoutz and fellow insomniacs. I responded to your latest comment/news of your original question below, and it showed up on my end not being visible. Long tale short, I do hope it continues to give you that sound sleep. Goodnight and lets hope that it is a sign of sleep that will continue to follow for the future. Goodnight folks, pledge is shutting down and going to spend some "quality time" and for those of you who know me, that means either grilling or golf or both! :-0)
Have a good evening Pledge! :o)
Thanks Mary and appreciated.
Hello Sandrai Houtz. I suggest you ask your doctor about the sleeping benzodiazepines. Dalmane being one. You will end up shaking a drug hangover as the side effects (lathargic) last several hours upon awakening. However you will get yourself a solid nights rest and sleep. Best of wishes to you, pledge
haven't thought of that one ... have you taken it?
Yes I was on it for several years. My body has a high tolerance to the benzodiazepines and will build up an immunity to them. So, its catch as catch can and then (in my case) try another sleeping drug.
okay thanks I might call her and suggest trying a few of these :) thanks for the suggestion ... isn't it miserable to NOT sleep :(
Yes it is. In my case it all catches up and then I manage four or five hours, all be it broken up. I hope that your doctor agrees and you get the chance to try the Dalmane or Restoril (another sleeping benzodiazepine).
she did agree to call me some Rozeram in ... here's to hopefully sleeping tonight! :)
There you go! and good for you. lets keep the fingers crossed. bye bye now, pledge
see my above comment about the cost for this and the pre-auth needed :( The pharmacy had suggested Sonata but I told them from what i understood it's basically the same as Ambien and I didn't really want it ... so I pushed for the Rozeram ... it had BETTER work ... lol ...
Oh boy. I see your point and pricey. Let us know how it goes.
I'm so glad so far that I pushed for the Rozerem ...
That is good news Sandra. I understand about the early wake up calls. We have a few acres ourselves and at one point, way back when had a few animals (Nubian goats) but have since stopped. Our last one passed on some four years ago. We do have our dogs and they are special. As all animals are. I've a soft spot for our four legged buddies. Well, be well and lets hope that the trend continues, meaning you get too sleep. Take care now.
Now I have to "try" Sonata and "fail it" in order for my insurance to cover my Rozerem ... stupid ... but okay ... here we go with another drug that i know I don't want ...
Thanks Pledge ... we used to have goats also ... Saanen ... but then we needed to switch the cows to three times a day milking and trying to milk the goats twice a day ... something had to go ... so out went the goats ...
I understand Sandra. Bit tired this morning, and need to get things done before the high heat sets in. Talk to you later friend, have yourself a great day now.
HI Pledge, what are you currently taking for sleep? It's so frustrating isn't it ... and it's way stupid hot in my back yard ... and my bunch is filling silo ... should wrap it up this afternoon :)
Hello again Sandra. I use Remeron/ Mirtazapine. 135mg. An awfull lot I know but it helps me to get a few hours. The plus side is not shaking off a drug hangover. The downside is weight. I take my first dose around 6pm. By 7, I get a full blown hungar attack, so I then have my evening meal. Instead of eating away on snacks (I have a sweet tooth)I follow that up with pill number two and an hour or so later with the third one. By midnight I feel sleepy and then usually around 3(am) I wake up. The house is asleep and I get my first pot of coffee perking. I am active in another web site in Europe where they are six hours ahead of me. Then, about 5 or 6 am I log onto our site here. Excuses for the long speech that happens when I am tuckered out in regards to sleep or lack of rather.
Hey Pledge ... we have to do whatever we need to do individually to get some sleep :) You have an amazing schedule! How do you do it? :)
Well Sandra, I go through the motions and I also run on a fair amount of anxiety. Low key but none the less its there.
Doc also wants me to take Wellbutrin to take off the edge of my type A personality ... I can see it ... I did try taking the XL and got stomach pain so I asked her to give me the twice a day and started it but still had stomach pains, but another doc also had me start taking Mobic for my tennis elbow, and NO I don't play tennis! he-he :) So I stopped both as I wasn't sure which one was causing havoc in my stomach ... I did feel better on it ... so much energy and I just didn't really get to fussed up about everything else that goes one around here and that's a tall order with 5 kids, homeschooling and running a dairy farm :)
Hi there Sandra. Two side effects in regards to Wellbutrin. In clinical studies/trials 28% of users reported weight loss as a side effect. 22.9% reported nausea as a issue. I'll dig a bit further in regards to stomach pains/aches. Have a good one now, pledge
Thanks Pledge ... I just wasn't sure if it was the Mobic or the combo of starting it and Wellbutrin at the same time ...
You can try things like adjusting your diet, schedule, rearranging furniture, exercise etc. and stop looking to drugs for the answer. As you found out meds only go so far, then they don't work anymore. Hope this helps.
not really, but thank you ... I'm not trying to be snarky ... but with 5 kids still at home, home schooling and taking online classes myself, sleep is more than important ... I did not have this "issue" until I had a 6 month addiction broken from Oxycontin (a drug straight from Hell in my book) ... and ever since then ... which has been almost 2 years I have had insomnia issues ... I might note that I did NOT seek out prescription meds until 2 weeks ago ... so I did NOT turn to prescription drugs to help me ... just as a last resort ... when I go 3-4 days with no sleep ... it gets to be a little more than important ...
Dear Sandra, welcome to the site. Although everyone has a right to voice their opinion, doesn't mean their always right, especially in how they come across. I comletely understand you're situation, and have been there myself. Medication isn't always the answer for some people, but that's what doctor's and medicine are here for. Are for the people that do. Don't feel like you have to defend yourself. There are alot of people on here, No, most people on here are very caring and supportive and have or are going through the same thing/things you are. I would definately talk to my dr. about another medication to help you. Lack of sleep causes all kinds of a different set of problems. If you need some help for a while, there's nothing wrong with that. I sincerely hope you get to feeling better, and get the sleep you need. And please keep coming back to the site for anything that you might need. There are a bunch of wonderful people here who would love to help you. If you need anything I am here for you. Best wishes. Your friend~Ruthie
Thanks Ruthie ... I was trying to not come across as a smart aleck ... and right now the lack of sleep makes me say stuff at times or type them, that I might otherwise never do ... it's just so frustrating ... I did call the doc this AM and requested some Rozarem ... here's to hoping she calls some in! I gotta sleep! Last night was BAD :(
Honey... sorry it's so late getting back to you. Just got back from dr. I'm soo sorry you're not sleeping and didn't get any last night. We'll pray she calls some of that in for you and it will do the trick. I'm going to friend you, and if you need to talk or need anything else at all... don't hesitate to get ahold of me. Your friend~Ruthie
Thanks Ruthie ... I friended you to ... I did get 8 mg of the med ... so here's to sleeping tonight :) Will update tomorrow!
I did pick up 30 days of the generic Sonata to appease the insurance company, primarily, if I don't try this one then they won't pay for the Rozarem and at $65.00 for 10 tabs out of pocket a month would be impossible to pay for without insurance ... oh well ...
Sometimes ambien does that, only working short term. You might mention that you've heard that rozeram was a good sleeping pill and isn't habit forming. I know when you're desperate for sleep, you'd do almost anything to get it. It sounds like your doctor is willing to help you. Good luck on a good nights sleep.
Thank you, last night I went back to what had worked before ... Allteril, Rapid Sleep and Sleep ... all over the counter ... and just one of the 10 mg. Ambien ... I got up once and slept most of the night ... felt better today :)
then last night did the same with the over the counter and had to wait for hubby to get home ... he was later than I was expecting ... 1 AM ... so I didn't take my Ambien ... and I didn't sleep at all :( I called my doc this AM and requested some Rozarem ... it's so hard to try and impress over the phone just how much the not sleeping is affecting my every day life and health ... :(
I think docs are just realizing how much sleep deprivation effects people. I've been taking Melatonin mg extended release tabs with help from it. I do all the other things they tell you to do to sleep too.
