My insurance company removed Alprazolam from coverage. They offer Clonazepam, Diazepam, or Lorazepam. I've been taking Alprazolam for a long time, and uncomfortable with this change.
Alprazolam - is there an alternative drug for alprazolam?

First question I have is why are you taking alprazolam? (anxiety, sleep problems or another reason) Alprazolam is a benazodiazepine. However alprazolam is considered the most addictive of the benzo meds, and that is why many insurers are taking it off their formulary list of drugs they will pay for. Anyway you have 2 choices to make:
1) Tell your insurers that you will pay for the alprazolam out of your pocket. It should cost you around $20 to $30 a month, that is, as long as your doctor still prescibes it to you.
or
2) Try one of the other benzos. (I myself prefer diazepam over alprazolam)
Personally I take Clonazepam (I take the brand name Klonopin) , it does work for me, but as you are aware everyone reacts differently to medications. I did try Alprazolam and it was not that good for me as well as Lorazepam and Diazepam, I found Lorazepam and Diazepam to have a weaker effect, again, everyone is different.

I found Clonazepam to have a strongest effect for me.
Talk to your DR., I do suggest you try the other benzodiazepines as they may have a different effect on you... trial and error, until you find the one that works best for you.
