Even with all the horror stories I've heard about withdrawals from it, is this true?
My dr switch me from lorazepam to clonazepam with no weening off of the lorazepam?

I was on Cholanzapam for 2 years only 0.5mg everyday came off of it due to symptoms of vertigo in which I believe I was having some side effect from the Cholanzapam. I'm taking 0.5mg now of Lorazepam and feel very loopy as I did with the Cholanzapam. Even though they are small doses they still have some sort of effect on me. I'm trying to get off these Benzo drugs since I haven't taking them a long period of time. It's been 2 days for the Lorazepam and do not like it. Will be calling the Dr tomorrow. I'm taking lamotrigine as well. Do not like this feeling. I'm not myself and can't seem to get my life together.
I take clonazepam can i switch lorazepam this is same madison's and same salt because no available clonazepam
No worries the klonipin is a stronger drug but more importantly it has a longer half life. In fact some physicians use klonipin to wean people off benzos with a shorter half life.
I tried switching to valium from ativan. It wasn't pleasant for me. My body and mind were use to that particular chemical make up of the ativan. I hate when people say all benzos are the same. Nope. Not at all.
If you have a difficult time on clon you may need to cut back the ativan first. Remember to breath.

Thanks.. wow, that's why I'm on here, it's good information I'm getting, I guess I'll find out tomorrow, I'll be glad when I can rid myself of this stuff
Sky; by no means did I mean to say that the benzos are the same, Valium, Diazepam is one of the oldest and pretty much in a family of its own due to the way it breaks down in almost anybody which is why it is not used as much . And Most choices start with Lorazepam, then Alprazolam, And the stronger of the 3 is considered Clonazepam. these are all very close to each other but break down much differently and easier to taper people off of as the order I put them down. But after years of use, none are that easy to come off of when we have been on them for years. Chuck1957 But in my opinion, if you need to be on them and taken right it's well worth the time to withdrawal once we don't need them anymore. Have a great weekend and sorry if I downplayed anything it was not intentional. chuck
Hey chuck, this might be a stupid question because I'm not that knowledgeable about this but if it's stronger wouldn't it be harder to get off of?
sun; Now when it is done right by a doctor that knows what they are doing. Most important is not to rush the withdrawal process. Any more than us having to take it because the other ones are not working anymore. And a big difference is trying to keep the patient on the lowest dose possible but where it is working better than the one that has stopped giving relief. it's a very difficult question because just like the medication we all have our threshold also. But very much success with tapering down off of these new type of medications. Chuck
Chuck1957, I wasn't meaning you I was referring to some uneducated medical professionals. Sorry for the confusion.
Have a nice day.
sunontheice; that was so sweet of you and I really just assumed it was my answer bad me. but thanks and always feel free to ask I by far don't know everything but as with anything sure would not want to hurt anyone in any way. But myself I have sadly had all too. and I remember Valium just hit me hard but only for a while then petered out. the newer ones seem to stick with me longer. which is how they were designed. have a great day and thank you so much.
JBME; This is not to worry about the Clonazepam well cover up any withdrawal of Lorazepam being that Clonazepam is much stronger and stays in the system much longer. You would not have to ween until or if they decide to take you off altogether.
Thanks for the reply, I'm starting it tomorrow, been on lorazepam for 8 years so I was a little concerned
Hey chuck, this morning I took 1mg of clonazepam instead of the lorazepam, in about 30 minutes I got extremely dizzy called the advice line they told me to stop the meds till I talk to my dr, that's not till Monday, it subsided now just slightly dizzy , my bp is fine but my pulse went down to 47 which is why I think I got dizzy, I also take antenol for bp.. in the morning my pulse is usually low between 49-52 anyway, is it my body getting used to the stronger meds or should I stop it like the advice nurse said.. I appreciate your feedback
Morning Beme; No you can't just stop then you well have withdrawals this is a choice to make. this is very common when you start a new medication they hit you harder than they well say 2 or 3 dose's later but to avoid the dizziness and knowing it might I would say try just 1/2 pill next time OR you could take some of the Lorazepam if you still have some and it sounded like you do this is really not a side effect this is what I was meaning this one is a bit stronger so of course it is going to hit your system stronger but its ok to take less until your body and mind get used to it but never ever take more of a medication. so those would be your best choices if it were myself I would go for 1/2 of the new one the doctor wants you on if you're going to be taking it a bit easy today which is a good idea when you're starting a new medication. ANY QUESTIONS JUST HIT ME UP.BUT WE JUST CAN'T STOP FOR 3 DAYS UNTIL YOU CAN TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR.
I AM SURE 1/2 WELL BE FINE AT TIMES THEY HIT ME HARDER THAN OTHER TIMES AND THE WAY THEY DO IS DIZZY OR JUST FEELING LIKE A BIT WOOZY. NOT A FEELING I ENJOY. LOL, THIS SHOULD DO IT. I AM SORRY IT TAKES A WHILE FOR MY EYES TO KICK IN THE MORNING IM ON MY 4TH PAIR OF GLASSES CHEMOTHERAPY REALLY MESSED ME UP. SO I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE OR SEND ME A MESSAGE. BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE PULSE THIS IS SHORT AND NORMAL.That is more from the atenolol then the Clonazepam best to you bud
Thanks chuck, the label said take 1.5 in the morning and .05 in evening as needed , I was only taking 1mg of lorazepam a day but I only took 1mg this morning of the clonazepam... I learned the hard way to take half of what they prescribe just in case of a reaction, I'm glad I did, ill see how the rest of the day goes, I'll take the same again in the morning, see if it's any less... thanks again , don't apologize for your condition we all lucky to have you helping us out.. god bless
Thanks, JBME; yes this is kind of hard to explain but it is fine like I said on most meds to take less but we can't do that on any type timed release. Just for the record and also It sounds weird but even though the Lorazepam and Clonazepam are both 1mg you can't compare the mg because they are different drugs and the Clonazepam is still stronger and stays in the system longer. But don't worry but I can all but guarantee that the effects you are having well go away. please write anytime. Chuck
