Please I need some help. I am only 21 and i cant really understand whats happening. almost every single one of my teeth is decaying and bad. my gums and teeth hurt daily. It's like I can feel them decaying away and it seriously HURTS! I live on my own and I don't have the money to go to a dentist. just to look at me is $150-300 and I don't have money like that at all. I haven't really been to the dentist since i was like 12. My parents just stopped taking me. No insurance I guess. I have Aflac through my employer and it's not enough to help. My teeth just continue to rot away no matter what I do. I've also never had any teeth removed ever and my wisdom teeth have mostly all come in. My whole jaw has been realigned. I look like a different person than before. I also sometimes get a really nasty taste and pus from the back of my teeth. It is quite unpleasing. My tongue sometimes gets big red bumps that hurt too. They last only a few days though then go away. I just wonder is there any way at all that I can find someone who will work on my teeth for either cheap or let me make payments or something. Maybe a chance for students to learn? Trust me I've got a lot going on in there and I am sure it could be a great lesson or something for a college professor or something. Is there something out there to help people like me that cant afford dental work. I just want to know what it's like to not be in pain every day and not have people think I am a crack head or something. My teeth disgust me and I am sure others too. I have seen this happen to people but not this young. Please let me know if there is anything out there.
I am only 21 and my whole mouth is rotting away?

Hello sammytoes and welcome to DC. I can feel for you and empathize with your dental issues. My stepson has had all of his teeth replaced and recently suffered a heart attack. His diet was horrible and just thrived on fast food crap, chips... dips and cheese whiz for years. I want to say that you need immediate intervention as there is more going on internally than just your teeth going bad. It does sound like you have a massive infection and you can help that by gargling 8 ounces of very warm salt water while swishing it around in your mouth. This takes about 3 minutes. Salt helps draw out the infection. Flossing plus brushing after every meal is important, too.
More importantly, I am concerned with your nutrition. Not eating right can lead to these issues but it might not be too late. Watch the fast food stuff and overly processed food. If you can cook what you eat, that is a good start. Stick with soft stuff... mild and bland until this infection is under control. An abscess can lead to other problems within the sinus cavity making for more serious issues.
You have been given some great advice here regarding colleges and free dental care. I hope you will follow up on that sooner rather than later. If you are able to take Advil or Tylenol... that will help with the pain from the infection.
Let us know how you are doing and how we can continue to support you.

check with health departments , some have dental clinics and if not can tell you where to find one. also at university hospitals they have days each month where dental students supervised fix your teeth free.
I have found that green tea heated, one family size bag for two cups of hot tea. after a few days taken four times a day takes out soreness.
the problem with getting teeth pulled is no one will provide free dentures except for medicaid and very few americans quality for it. as adults.
I know this is an old post. I hope you were able to get some help. I live in AL & there is NO help around me. I’m from Nashville where they do have help for low income people. Around here, I haven’t been able to find anything. I hate that my parents spent so much to try and give me a nice smile and now my dental health is so poor. I’m searching for a way to get my teeth taken care of, and something I can do to keep the cavities I have from getting worse in the meantime. I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was a teenager at a university. I remember my mom being very stressed out about how to afford it, and the university was a Godsend! There is a campus of UA nearby, but I’m not sure if they have a dental program. I’m sure Nashville (or Birmingham, I’m in between) has a dental school, but I don’t have a car.
I’m dealing with health problems and my husband left me because I’m too much of a financial burden (I know I’m better off, but still..). The enamel on the front of my teeth is starting to come off, thankfully it’s only on my bottom teeth (so far), so it’s not really noticeable don’t think, but knowing that my teeth are this bad makes me VERY self-conscious and I’m sure it’s not helping my health problems (and my health problems are probably making my teeth worse).. it’s such a headache to say the least. If you did get help, I’d love to know what you did. I’ve had one of those savings plans and I paid about $200 to have them tell me it would be over $15k to get the “worst” of my dental problems fixed. I just went home $200+ poorer and feeling worse than when I went. I have a flyer thing I got in the mail for a cleaning, exam and X-rays for like $60, and I’m sure that getting them cleaned would help keep them from getting worse, but I’m so worried about what they will say I haven’t been. I honestly don’t have $60. If I did, I’d need to spend it on food etc. I really hope you’ve had some luck! I’m searching online for something! God bless you!
Sammytoes13... I really feel for you! I had dental problems too, granted , not to your extent, but there was a time where I was ashamed to smile because my teeth were rotting. My dental problems were from my own doing because I was using drugs at the time. But I got clean and once I did , I needed to find a way to fix my smile.
I don't know which state that you live in, so some of my suggestions my not help you, but I am hoping that some will.
First... try going online and finding a Dental School in your area. These are student Dentist and usually, they will work with you and only charge you according to your income. Also, you can try getting free dental care through your local Department of Social Services or Health Department. You can also do what I did, I found a dental discount plan. It is not insurance, but it is a plan that you can buy for usually a year or more.
You pay a small sum, (I paid $103.00) and that small sum covers you for anywhere from 12-24 months! They will supply you with a list of Dentist in your area that take the plan and then you can call the Dentist and tell them that you have the plan and they will have you come in for a consult to see what needs to be done and then you take it from there! I know if two different Dental discount plans. The one that I used was called Aetna Dental Discount and if found it by going to Dentalplans.com (and there are other discount plans on this site, I just mentioned Aetna, because that is the one that I chose). I ended up spending $4000.00 on my dental work and I know that sounds like a lot, but without the dental discount through my plan, I would have spent over $12,000.00 to get my teeth fixed!!! There is also another one called DentRite, you can research that one too.
I really hope that this helps you!! I know what it feels like to have bad teeth and how painful and nasty it can be and I am really happy with what I had done, I now have what they call mini-implants. they pulled all of my upper teeth and I have removiable implants. they are like dentures, but better!!
I wish you luck!! and I will add you as a friend, if you want, keep me posted..
:))
Thanks soo much ill look into that..I live in GA so I hope there is something for me. Thanks so much again. :)
You are very welcome!! I really hope it all works out for you! Keep in touch!! :))
Samantha I'm so sorry you are suffering. I have some advise I actually take my children to a college and they get their teeth cleaned for free. I'm not sure where you live but almost all community colleges or universities have a dental program. The graduate students work on your teeth. Also if you need a tooth pulled go to a hospital with a dental clinic they won't refuse you because of no insurance or money. You will get a bill but you can work out very low payment arrangements. I have been in the collections business along time. I hope I'm of some assistance I wish you the beat of luck! ! Ps there are clinics out there that base your payments on your income. Good luck!
