Video transcript

Vumerity is used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis in adults, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease. It was first approved by the FDA in 2019.

This medication belongs to a class of medications called Nrf2 activators. It is not fully clear how it works for multiple sclerosis, but has been shown in studies to be involved in the body’s response to oxidative stress.

Vumerity capsules are taken by mouth twice a day. It is not recommended to take it with a high-fat or high-calorie meal, and alcohol should be avoided during treatment.

Common side effects of Vumerity include flushing, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhea, and nausea. It can also raise your risk for serious infections, liver problems, and gastrointestinal reactions.
