Uridine Side Effects

Side effects requiring immediate medical attention

Along with its needed effects, uridine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking uridine:

Side effects not requiring immediate medical attention

Some side effects of uridine may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.

Very common (10% or more): Vomiting (10%)

Common (1% to 10%): Nausea, diarrhea[Ref]


-In 135 patients who had either received an overdose of fluorouracil or capecitabine or presented with severe or life-threatening toxicities within 96 hours, uridine triacetate was discontinued for adverse reactions in 2 patients; serious adverse reactions (Grade 3 nausea and vomiting) were seen in 1 patient.

-In 4 patients with hereditary orotic aciduria ranging in age from 3 to 19 years (3 males, 1 female) who received this drug for at least 9 months at dosages up to 120 mg/kg once a day, no adverse reactions were reported.[Ref]
