- Leustatin (cladribine)
- norethindrone
Interactions between your drugs
norethindrone cladribine
Applies to: norethindrone, Leustatin (cladribine)
Cladribine may reduce the blood levels and effectiveness of norethindrone, which may make it less reliable as a form of birth control. Alternative or additional methods of birth control such as condoms should be used during treatment with cladribine and for at least 4 weeks after the last dose in each treatment course to avoid unintended pregnancy. Talk to your gynecologist or other healthcare professional for help in selecting an effective method of birth control that is best for you. If you take hormone replacement for menopause, you should contact your doctor if you experience increased frequency or worsening of your symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, or abnormal bleeding. In addition, male patients should take precautions to prevent pregnancy of their partner during treatment with cladribine and for at least 6 months after the last dose in each treatment course.
Drug and food interactions

Applies to: norethindrone
Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of certain medications such as norethindrone. You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with norethindrone. However, if you have been regularly consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice with the medication, then it is advisable for you to talk with your doctor before changing the amounts of these products in your diet, as this may alter the effects of your medication. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. Orange juice is not expected to interact.
cladribine food
Applies to: Leustatin (cladribine)
Cladribine oral products can bind to other medications. This may increase your risk of experiencing side effects. To avoid or minimize the interaction, cladribine should be taken at least 3 hours before or after other medications. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns, or if you have trouble separating the dosing times. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact.
