Using nifurtimox together with fecal microbiota spores, live may decrease the effects of fecal microbiota spores, live. Your doctor may want to separate the dosing times to reduce the risk of an interaction. Contact your doctor if you have any concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Consumption of alcoholic beverages or products containing alcohol during treatment with nifurtimox is not recommended. Doing so may occasionally trigger a reaction in some patients similar to the disulfiram reaction, which includes unpleasant effects such as flushing, throbbing in head and neck, throbbing headache, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, sweating, thirst, chest pain, rapid heartbeat, palpitation, low blood pressure, dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, and confusion. Rarely, more severe reactions may include abnormal heart rhythm, heart attack, heart failure, unconsciousness, convulsions, and even death. Patients should take nifurtimox with food to ensure adequate absorption of the medication. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

It is unknown whether food affects the efficacy of fecal microbiota spores, live. The manufacturer of fecal microbiota spores, live advises that you should have no food or drink, except a small amount of water before the first dose of fecal microbiota spores, live. The second and third doses of fecal microbiota spores, live should be taken on an empty stomach prior to the first meal of the day.
