The use of piperazine is contraindicated in patients with renal dysfunction. Piperazine is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine.

Patients with anemia, dehydration, or malnutrition should receive supportive therapy for these complicating conditions prior to initiation of certain anthelmintic therapy.

The use of piperazine has rarely been associated with epileptiform convulsions. Therapy with piperazine should be administered cautiously in patients with preexisting seizure disorders.
