Nasonex Disease Interactions
There are 4 disease interactions with Nasonex (mometasone nasal).
Mometasone nasal (applies to Nasonex) hepatic impairment
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Liver Disease
Mometasone nasal should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Concentrations of mometasone appear to increase with severity of liver dysfunction.
Mometasone nasal (applies to Nasonex) hyperadrenocorticism
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
Hypercorticism and adrenal suppression may occur when nasal corticosteroids, including mometasone nasal, are used in patients at risk for such effects. It is important that the recommended dosage of mometasone nasal is not exceeded.
Mometasone nasal (applies to Nasonex) infections
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Infection - Bacterial/Fungal/Protozoal/Viral, Tuberculosis -- Latent
Patients who are using drugs that suppress the immune system, such as corticosteroids (including mometasone nasal), are more susceptible to infections than healthy subjects. Mometasone nasal should be used with caution, if at all, in patients with active or quiescent tuberculosis infection of the respiratory tract, untreated local or systemic fungal or bacterial infections, systemic viral or parasitic infections, or ocular herpes simplex due to the potential for worsening of these infections.
Mometasone nasal (applies to Nasonex) ocular toxicities
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Cataracts, Glaucoma/Intraocular Hypertension
Nasal and inhaled corticosteroids, including mometasone nasal, can result in the development of glaucoma and/or cataracts. Close monitoring is warranted in patients with a change in vision or history of increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma, and/or cataracts. Referral to an ophthalmologist should be considered for patients who develop ocular symptoms or use mometasone nasal long term.
