Influenza vaccine should be withheld, pending stabilization, in patients with active neurologic disorders associated with changing neurological status. Neurologic signs or symptoms following administration of an influenza vaccine is a contraindication to future use.
Influenza virus vaccine H5N1 (applies to influenza virus vaccine, h5n1) Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
Careful consideration of the potential risks and benefits should be given before deciding to give the influenza virus vaccine H5N1 to any patient who developed GBS within 6 weeks of receipt of a prior influenza vaccine.
Influenza virus vaccine H5N1 (applies to influenza virus vaccine, h5n1) hemophilia
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Bleeding Associated with Coagulation Defect
As with other intramuscular injections, this vaccine should be given with caution in individuals with bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia or on anticoagulation therapy, to avoid the risk of hematoma following the injection.
Influenza virus vaccine H5N1 (applies to influenza virus vaccine, h5n1) immunodeficiency
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
If Influenza Virus Vaccine, H5N1, is administered to immunocompromised patients, including individuals receiving immunosuppressive therapy, the expected immune response may not be obtained.
