Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Coagulation Defect, Intracranial Hemorrhage
Do not use hydroxyethyl starch products with preexisting coagulation or bleeding disorders, including those patients with intracranial bleeding.
Hydroxyethyl starch (applies to Voluven) liver dysfunction
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Liver Disease
Do not use hydroxyethyl starch products in patients with severe liver disease.
Hydroxyethyl starch (applies to Voluven) renal disease
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Renal Dysfunction
Do not use hydroxyethyl starch products in patients with renal failure with oliguria or anuria not related to hypovolemia, including those patients receiving dialysis treatment.
Hydroxyethyl starch (applies to Voluven) sepsis
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
Do not use hydroxyethyl starch products in critically ill adult patients, including patients with sepsis, due to increased risk of mortality and renal replacement therapy.
Hydroxyethyl starch (applies to Voluven) volume overload
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Hypernatremia
Do not use hydroxyethyl starch products with severe hypernatremia or severe hyperchloremia and in clinical conditions with volume overload.
