"Wow. Had the first shot, and other than about an hour of feeling yucky and an incredibly sore arm that lasted for at least a week (think: flu shot on steroids), it wasn’t bad. Today I had the second shot this morning. Felt fine all day, except for a headache about 4 hours in. I even went to Zumba class tonight. Then tonight - about 12 hours after the shot - I suddenly felt like a Mack truck hit me from one minute to the next. I cannot stop convulsively shivering. I took the hottest shower I’ve ever taken - and I was shivering so much that my teeth were chattering. Now I’m bundled up in 4 huge layers and a furry blanket - in summer - and I can’t stop shivering. My neck is sore, my head is aching, my muscles are sore, even my butt hurts! I didn’t think this vaccine would hit me badly, because it didn’t the first time. I still think this is better than getting shingles, because there’s an end in sight. I will keep popping Tylenols with codeine and wait out this storm. Yikes!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first Shingrix vaccine yesterday. I immediately felt nausea and slight pain at the injection site. I am a breast cancer survivor (31 years), and many of my axillary lymph nodes were removed. I wonder if this is why I reacted so strongly? As the day progressed, I developed an intense, horribly itchy and unscratchable pain under my arm. The muscle pain also became severe, and I was cold and nauseated, and I had a severe headache, but the itching under my arm was unbearable. Because I’m still “numb” from the surgery, the itching cannot be relieved. Has anyone else experienced this reaction? I fear the second dose."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "My doctor recommended the Shingrix vaccine on Monday, August 12, at my annual physical. I was told by the nurse that I might have soreness at the injection site. I went swimming on Monday and then worked the rest of the day. On Wednesday, I went swimming and a little kayaking. Wednesday night, I got chills, fever (103.7), shivering, flu-like symptoms, and all my joints hurt (I'm 58 with arthritis and two hip replacements). Thursday, I spent most of the day in bed with 7 of the 8 adverse reactions, according to my nurse, and a fever of 104.1. Friday was much of the same. I had an event to go to from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. As I headed home (5-minute drive), the chills started again. Fever and myalgia were back. I thought - that's it! I took 2 Aleve and 2 Tylenol on the direction of my nurse. Today, I had no energy whatsoever. It's 6:00 pm, and the shivers are back. I feel like crap, Temp. 101.5."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had 1st vaccine 3/2/19. Within 12 hours, I felt like I had been in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson. Arm, collarbone, rib pain on the side where the injection was administered. Flu-like symptoms, malaise, ache all over, tired. No energy, chills, poor appetite, ears ringing. I’ve never reacted to any medication or vaccine with such profound symptoms/side effects. 36 hours later, not feeling much better/worse. Very unlikely that I will get the 2nd injection."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I’m an obese person, take meds for heartburn and moderately high cholesterol. I work outside the home. The injection sites were only slightly sore, similar to that of an annual flu vaccine. Within hours of receiving the first shingles injection, I had malaise, chills, and shaking, no fever. The symptoms lasted for about 36 hours. The subsequent injection had similar side effects, but less severe, and lasting about 24 hours. I’m glad this vaccine is available, side effects aside! I’ve seen family who’ve had shingles, even a mild case can be excruciatingly painful."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "1st vaccine was awful, but thought 2nd dose might be easier if I took Advil ahead of time. 2nd was so much worse. Had severe pain all over, twitching in my eyelids, blurred vision, nausea, severe headache, ringing in ears, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, and great difficulty sleeping. Also had chills and an itchy red rash. Now dealing with a UTI, which has me feeling sick all the time."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got my first Shingrix vaccine two weeks ago. About 6 hours later, my fever was 101. I was exhausted, had chills, nausea, severe headache, and ached all over. The pain in my arm was ridiculous. This went on for about a week. I was perfectly healthy before getting the vaccine. Can’t wait to have the second dose!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Yesterday, I had my first injection of the Shingrix vaccination. My arm was sore within 3 hours, but I expected that because the pharmacist at CVS gave me a heads-up. What I didn’t expect was what I experienced last night: no sleep due to a severe headache, achy muscles, mild stomach issues, chills with a mild fever. Today, I am pale, weak, I have achy muscles, and I am wiped out. The injection site is hot, with redness, swelling, and pain. I just want to feel like I did before my visit to CVS. And now I’m reading that the second injection may be even worse. Ugh."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a healthy 54-year-old woman. I had the first Shingrix shot and had arm soreness, but nothing horrible. On 9/24/19, I had the second shot. I had the second one in the hip. Today is 8 days later, and I still have a large, raised red rash around the injection site with pain. The evening after I had the second shot, I had a 102.5 fever, chills, nausea, no appetite, extreme fatigue, and headache. In the morning, I had hives on my face and back and a patchy red rash on my arms and chest. I was exhausted and had a low fever for the next two days. Benadryl and Tylenol helped the hives and fever, but did not get rid of them. Friday after I received the shot, I felt better, but I was still achy and still had a headache. Last night, the backs of my calves started to feel achy and sore. They have bright red rashes on them, and I have tiny red spots on my feet and ankles. I still have a splotchy red rash on my arms and chest. The headache is now gone, and the hives are gone."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got Shingrix Friday at noon. It is now Monday at around noon. Side effects were horrible. Every symptom listed, chills, other flu-like symptoms were very bad. Still not feeling good and arm still sore. I see why people skip the second dose. Didn’t they see this in the trials?"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I’m a 57-year-old female; received the vaccine 3 days ago. About 18 hours post-vaccination, I was overcome with chills, severe fatigue, muscle aches, and headache. Each day, I wake feeling rested only to find myself back in bed in the afternoon due to being overcome by fatigue. Like others, I am not in any hurry to sign up for the second shot. Curious why some of us struggle more than others."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got my second shot of Shingrix, the usual side effects at first: pain, swelling, redness. My first shot, in retrospect, I got sores on my left arm and leg. Got the shot in my left arm. After the second shot, I was freezing, lethargic, can't remember the first 2 days post-injection. On day 4, I passed out and then had a paranoid, rage-filled 2.5 hours that I have absolutely no memory of having. I am a healthy 61-year-old and have never had anything like this. It was a night that was so bad that involved paramedics and cops. I woke up in a strange hotel in a different city, courtesy of the cops. Thank goodness they didn't arrest me. I would NEVER get this again. I was engaged and buying a house. When I woke up, that part of my life is gone now, thanks to that evening."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "OMG, this vaccine was awful. Within an hour after receiving the shingles vaccine, I was tired - slept nearly 2 hours. Then I had side effects - the shivers started, I could not get warm - heating pad on my hands/wrist. Next came flu-like symptoms, although no upset stomach or fever, just aching all over. It has now been 29 hours since I received the vaccine, and I am mildly recovering - still not up to par."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had my first vaccination for Shingrix in April. Had tenderness at the injection site, and a mild dull headache the following day. I just had my booster 3 days ago. Very painful arm, throbbing and hot red around the injection location, the redness was about 1/3 the size of my upper arm. The second night, headache, chills, upset tummy, and fever. This is day three, and I am overwhelmed with exhaustion, and I feel very emotional. One minute sad, next cranky. Very, very sore arm. I found this site and thought I would share my experience. My husband says, “No way he is getting his inoculation. Hope I feel better soon. I just feel out of sorts."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "55 y/o female. My mom had bad shingles. I have a fairly poor immune system, so I figured I should get this shot. TOTAL REGRET. First shot in May 2018, and it wasn't good. Same symptoms as everyone describes: 3 or so days of intense headache/pressure, bad chills, fatigue so awful you can't move. I dreaded shot #2. I wish I hadn't gotten it. I put it off but finally did it just this morning. I feel like death. I worry if all of us will have long-term issues, I see some on here say they do already. I am feeling worse than the first time. This stuff better be worth it because it is brutal. WISHING EVERYONE THE BEST."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received my first Shingrix in September and had a very sore arm for 4 days. I received my second dose this past Monday and have been sick ever since. It’s been 5 days now. The first 2 days were bad with fever, shivers, headache, nausea, diarrhea, and sore arm. Most of the symptoms subsided in 3 days except for the nausea and diarrhea. Hoping that goes away soon. I’ve never gotten sick from a vaccination before. If this required a 3rd dose, I would decline it! I’ve lost 6 pounds this week from being so sick."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I have only had the first of the two Shingrix vaccines this week, and the doctor didn't even warn me about potential side effects. The vaccine was 2 days ago, and my arm is very sore (can hardly move it), swollen, and red. I had a fever on and off all day yesterday (101-102) and chills and shakes last night. Horrible headache yesterday and even worse today, plus dizziness, lightheadedness, muscle aches (everywhere), and nausea. I've tried Tylenol, Advil, and neither has helped."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received the first shot Tuesday evening, 7-16-19, around 7 pm at my pharmacy. The shot barely hurt. Two hours later, I noticed pain in my arm and that my eyes were burning. I decided to take ibuprofen and go to bed. I woke up during the night feeling feverish and ill. I did not feel well enough to go to work. Around noon, my fever spiked to 102, and chills started. Nauseous and a bad headache. I took more ibuprofen and Motrin, but the fever would not come down for about four hours. I considered going to the ER as my symptoms were so bad. Then the fever slowly came down to 99. Diarrhea and feeling very ill and exhausted. Today is Thursday, and my fever is 99. Muscle aches so bad I can hardly walk. A huge, red, hot knot three inches at the injection site. I am better than yesterday, but I feel like this is going to take some time to recover from this vaccine. My husband contracted shingles a few weeks ago, that is why I got the vaccine as a preventative. I wish I had not, as this has been terrible."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a 61-year-old female in good health. The first shingles shot only caused a sore injection site on my arm. I had the second shot yesterday, 16 hours later, I am experiencing fever, very bad cold chills, extreme fatigue, and every muscle in my body aches. Feels like the flu, which I have not had in many, many years. If I had known I would get this sick, I would not have had this vaccine. I don't see how a vaccine can be approved for use that makes people so sick."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Oct 28, 2019. Received my first dose in the morning, which my husband encouraged me to get. My arm hurt, but it got a lot worse by bedtime, also, I didn’t realize, but in the afternoon, I was complaining about some muscle aches. At bedtime, the muscle aches and chills came on full force. The rest of the night was like fighting the flu: chills, muscle aches, nausea, fever. This all continued through the next day, really rethinking the second dose."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Here is my side effect timeline after the 1st shot: 0-12 hours - slight pain in arm where shot was placed. 12-18 hours - body aches and chills identical to what I get with the flu. Bad enough that all I could do was lay in bed under an electric blanket. 18-20 hours - body aches and chills start to go away. Fatigue takes over. Hot shower and Advil helped at this point. 20-36 hours - fatigue faded away. After 36 hours - feel normal except for slight pain in arm."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "So I have been vaccinated to the teeth and never experienced anything like this shot. Fever, chills, and stabbing headache. Unbelievable arm soreness. On the second day, my arm got red and hot, and it kept spreading across and down my arm. My doctor is monitoring me closely. On the 5th day now, my doctor said this is a new class of vaccine. I didn't even react to any of the COVID shots. It's worrying."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I do not recommend this bad med to anyone! Please ask all questions and do your research! This is the 2nd dose I’ve had, and let me tell you, I felt like death! All of my joints were so painful at the injection site and not at the injection site! I’ve also had nausea, body chills, shakiness, severe flu-like symptoms! NEVER will I recommend this vaccine!"
