For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Very sore arm and limbs ached within 4 hours of the shot. As the day progressed, I experienced shaking chills, exhaustion, and fever. At about the 16th hour mark, my fever went up to 103.7. My body aches. I’ve taken two cold showers, 2 Ibuprofen, and have ice packs on my head. Do not get this vaccine unless you have 2-3 days to recover."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received the vaccine on October 23rd, and within a few hours began having side effects - pain at the injection site, fever, muscles and joints ache, extremely tired, and stomach pains - like a really bad flu. Felt bad for a week, and then the second and third weeks (this week) it came in waves. Every time I think I’m over the side effects, they come back. Has anyone else experienced this? I had no issues at all with the old shingles vaccine. I’m scheduled to get the second vaccine in December, but am not sure I am going to do it. I’m miserable!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had 1st vaccine 3/2/19. Within 12 hours, I felt like I had been in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson. Arm, collarbone, rib pain on the side where the injection was administered. Flu-like symptoms, malaise, ache all over, tired. No energy, chills, poor appetite, ears ringing. I’ve never reacted to any medication or vaccine with such profound symptoms/side effects. 36 hours later, not feeling much better/worse. Very unlikely that I will get the 2nd injection."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got my first Shingrix vaccine two weeks ago. About 6 hours later, my fever was 101. I was exhausted, had chills, nausea, severe headache, and ached all over. The pain in my arm was ridiculous. This went on for about a week. I was perfectly healthy before getting the vaccine. Can’t wait to have the second dose!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got my second shot of Shingrix, the usual side effects at first: pain, swelling, redness. My first shot, in retrospect, I got sores on my left arm and leg. Got the shot in my left arm. After the second shot, I was freezing, lethargic, can't remember the first 2 days post-injection. On day 4, I passed out and then had a paranoid, rage-filled 2.5 hours that I have absolutely no memory of having. I am a healthy 61-year-old and have never had anything like this. It was a night that was so bad that involved paramedics and cops. I woke up in a strange hotel in a different city, courtesy of the cops. Thank goodness they didn't arrest me. I would NEVER get this again. I was engaged and buying a house. When I woke up, that part of my life is gone now, thanks to that evening."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "OMG, this vaccine was awful. Within an hour after receiving the shingles vaccine, I was tired - slept nearly 2 hours. Then I had side effects - the shivers started, I could not get warm - heating pad on my hands/wrist. Next came flu-like symptoms, although no upset stomach or fever, just aching all over. It has now been 29 hours since I received the vaccine, and I am mildly recovering - still not up to par."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had my first vaccination for Shingrix in April. Had tenderness at the injection site, and a mild dull headache the following day. I just had my booster 3 days ago. Very painful arm, throbbing and hot red around the injection location, the redness was about 1/3 the size of my upper arm. The second night, headache, chills, upset tummy, and fever. This is day three, and I am overwhelmed with exhaustion, and I feel very emotional. One minute sad, next cranky. Very, very sore arm. I found this site and thought I would share my experience. My husband says, “No way he is getting his inoculation. Hope I feel better soon. I just feel out of sorts."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had the new shingles vaccine December 19, 2019. On the 20th, my hands really ached. I could not put up the tree and just fell asleep. The next day, my right wrist was really sore and swollen. On December 23, I laid on the couch sobbing because my whole body ached. The following day, I had no appetite and was very tired. December 26, I had the worst headache ever. Today, the 27, I ache all over, but the headache is gone. This has been a bit of a nightmare. My father had shingles, that is why I got the shot, but not sure I will get the second dose."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Just received my second shot of Shingrix on 7/19/19. My arm is quite sore and is warm and hard at the injection site. Experiencing body aches and some stomach cramps. Also, a headache and tiredness. The first shot was worse. I ran a fever of 101 and felt like I had been hit by a bus. Side effects lasted several days, so I would recommend getting the vaccine when you have a couple of days off afterward. It's hard for me to rate the effectiveness - I guess if I don't get shingles, it will have been worth it. I wouldn't make any plans for the first 2 or 3 days after each vaccine."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first shot in August and had a sore arm for about 2 weeks. Felt a little achy for a couple of days. That was a walk through the park compared to my second that I received 7 days ago. Burnt like fire going in, and a few hours later my arm is very, very sore and still is, no bruise or swelling though. Along with the sore arm, which I can deal with, I have been knocked down with severe joint pain from head to toe, fever, horrible headache, and overall exhausted even after sleeping. When is it going to stop!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I got the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) on a Sunday, and that night and the next day I had flu-like symptoms: fever, chills, muscle aches, tiredness, and the most painful arm. Could not sleep. Then, 2-3 days later, again, the same flu-like symptoms. Then, the next day, diarrhea. It's miserable! I got a COVID test just to make sure I did not have it, and it came back negative. Not sure about getting the 2nd shot!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I wanted to share my positive experience with Shingrix! My husband and I (53/54) both had the first dose in May 2019. Neither one of us had any side effects other than soreness at the injection site. Second dose end of August 2019 on a Friday (purposely on a Friday just in case we got sick from it). The only side effect again was a sore arm, and we were both exhausted on Saturday. We took a nap, and by 6 pm Saturday night... we were fine. Everyone reacts differently."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received the Shingrix vaccine about 10 days ago. Arm a little sore at first, but nothing terribly noticeable. But within a few days, I noticed I was feeling tired, achy, and somewhat nauseated at times. GI not doing great. Joints hurt. I thought it might have been a GI thing, but eventually, I realized it must have been the vaccine. While not necessarily truly allergic to much, I have pronounced difficulties with almost every medication I've ever taken. After reading the responses on this site, I am quite certain that all my symptoms are related to this vaccine. However, I am so thankful that this effective vaccine is now available. I am in healthcare, and I know firsthand how awful shingles can be. Do not be put off by the side effects. Get the vaccine. You won't remember the side effects, but you would always remember the shingles."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I got my first dose of Shingrix on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at my local pharmacy. The pharmacist who administered the injection knew what she was doing, and it was minimally painful, very little pain! I noticed as the evening went on my arm became a little more tender and felt warm. I was one of the fortunate ones, as my worst side effect was my arm being sore for about 3 days. I may have felt a little lethargic the following day, but not sure if that’s because of the Shingrix vaccine or not. No fever, no shivering, no body aches. Round two will be in 2 to 4 months, so hopefully I’ll have the same outcome!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I wasn’t surprised to be sore with side effects after the first shot. The second shot gave me a fever and flu-like symptoms for a week. It kicked off asthma, and now, 6 weeks later, I feel weak and achy, my arms and legs exhaust instantly. Chest pressure/pain and exhaustion. I’m a 53-year-old healthy woman, regular exercise, work full-time, mom. It took me until I went to my doctor to connect that everything started with the vaccine, but nothing online lists more than 2-3 days. I just heard about a husband and wife who had a month like me after it."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a healthy 67-year-old male. I got my first Shingrix shot in one arm and a pneumococcal vaccine in the other arm. This standard protocol may be inadvisable, since it then becomes hard to discriminate many side effects. It is now day 3, and both arms are still sore. The pneumococcal arm is so sore I can't reach the top shelf. I got a fever (with the usual chills, tiredness), which spiked at 101.5 on day 2, then finally subsided after 2.5 days (60 hours), leaving me still feeling tired on day 3. This has definitely affected my activities. Also, notably, I got a chickenpox-like rash on my chest on day 2, centered on my solar plexus and about 6 inches in spread. It wasn't painful or itchy and disappeared when the fever did. Some websites report this as a possible side effect. This is a nasty vaccine. But I still plan to get the second Shingrix shot in 2-6 months, on the presumption that the disease it prevents is nastier."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first Shingrix injection in September. I had a very sore arm and felt sluggish for a few days, but it didn't stop me. I had my second shot Tuesday, October 8th. Based on my experience with the first shot, I took Advil right before I got the shot. My arm was very sore when I went to bed, and I woke around 4 AM, and it hurt much worse. I took 2 more Advil and went back to sleep. The pain was reduced, and I went about my day until around 6 or 7 when I started feeling sore all over, became very tired, and got the chills. I barely had an appetite. I made it to almost 10 so I could walk my dog, then went to bed, taking more Advil. Today my symptoms are present, but have reduced. If I don't get shingles, it will all be worth it. PS, Medicare doesn't pay for the shots, so I spent well over $300 for the shots."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I have now had both Shingrix vaccinations, and my response was about the same for both. Within two hours of the shot, I got a wicked headache that lasted about 5 days. The next day, I had extreme arthritic-like pain, particularly in my spine, neck, and knees. I felt feverish, had scary nightmares, and could not get comfortable temperature-wise in bed. I felt like crying, which is not my style. My stomach was quite upset, and I could barely eat. I felt lethargic and dizzy at times. I also had two incidents of visual display disruption, like what I was looking at was vibrating. This was migraine-like if anyone has ever had that. My arm was very sore and red. My breasts hurt. I felt, at times, like it was hard to get air. My husband had the shot, and it hardly bothered him. He felt mostly just tired. I am 64 years old, and he is 68. I got the shots because I know some people who have had shingles, and they were in excruciating pain."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a 52-year-old male. My wife is my pharmacist. I didn't even think to ask about side effects. I don't think I have ever had an issue with any vaccine before. Six days ago, I had my second shot. The next day, I felt off, and then about mid-afternoon, I started to feel flu-like symptoms. Since then, no appetite, fever, chills, lethargic, and feel like I have a bad flu. That's when I found this site and saw all the awful side effects. My wife still insists they should be mild and last 2 or 3 days. I am on day 6 and still feel awful. Now that I know, I do remember not feeling well around the time of the first shot but didn't think to attribute it to the vaccine. I wish I hadn't gotten it."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "It's hard to really rate this. I had the first shot a couple of months ago and got the flu shot at the same time. My arm was much more sore from Shingrix than from the flu shot. I was a little tired and felt a little bad, but I got the shots on Friday evening and just stayed home and rested all weekend. Still didn't feel 100% by Monday, but I didn't feel bad enough to miss work. A week ago I got the 2nd Shingrix shot and my monthly B12 shot. The Shingrix site is sore again, but this time it has had a red rash around it, along with swelling and fever around the site. If it keeps me from having shingles, it was well worth it. I've known several people who have had shingles and I do not want to go through that! Just praying no other side effects from Shingrix appear in the future."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Well, I am not going to ever just get a vaccine again. I work in a medical office, have a yearly flu shot, and have an easy time dealing with side effects from meds. Three days ago, I went to my pain management and got an injection of a steroid for low back pain. She says, 'Giving you the new shingles vaccine. No problem, right!?' Three hours later, I was hit with a wave of exhaustion so severe I was unable to drive. I called off Friday, it’s now Sunday, and I am feeling pains in areas of my back and hip that haven’t hurt in years, also nonstop ringing in the ears. Fatigue is still the main issue. Also, anxiety and irritability. I have been searching for how this drug was approved with no idea about the excretion and pharmacology of it. Most of all, why are they still using it, not really knowing anything about it? It is making billions of people sick and making the pharmaceutical company billionaires."
