For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I got the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) on a Sunday, and that night and the next day I had flu-like symptoms: fever, chills, muscle aches, tiredness, and the most painful arm. Could not sleep. Then, 2-3 days later, again, the same flu-like symptoms. Then, the next day, diarrhea. It's miserable! I got a COVID test just to make sure I did not have it, and it came back negative. Not sure about getting the 2nd shot!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had 2nd Shingrix shot 7/3/19. Next day had fever, chills, and body aches, along with a sore arm. Here I am almost 3 months later, and my arm is sore and I have pain when lifting it. Wakes me up at night. Went to the doctor today, had an ultrasound done on my arm - shows nothing. Dr. told me to put warm compresses on, and if not better in a month, he will refer me to a surgeon. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "With the first shot of Shingrix, I just had a sore arm for about 5 days. Second shot yesterday. Fever of 100, chills, arm pain at the injection site, chills, nausea. Took Advil and feeling a bit better. Probably will spend the day at home today. Hoping tomorrow is better."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Monday, Sept 30th, had my first shingle shot. Had a headache for the 3 days. Day 4, headache became much worse, chills, ache all over, dizzy... Day 5, stayed in bed most of the day. Is this common on days 4-5? Hope this goes away! Feel awful! I’m very concerned about getting the next shot. Do not think I’ll be getting it."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Trials indicated the vaccine is very effective. Having had post-herpetic neuralgia in the past, I definitely wanted to get the vaccine to avoid the shingles nightmare. It's a horrible disease. First dose, no problem. Second dose - kicked. My. Butt. Fever, chills, sweats, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, headache, large painful local reaction. I basically stayed in bed for 3 days. In other words, a robust immune response. I did read the data on adverse events, and this kind of response is not uncommon, so I was not concerned, but I was very surprised to have such a severe reaction. Husband had no reaction whatsoever, barely a sore arm. We are both in our early 60s in good health. I felt much better on the 4th day and was back to normal activity on the 5th day. Vaccine was free under my ACA insurance. Yay."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "For herpes zoster prophylaxis. I am a 52-year-old female in good health. The first shingles shot caused a sore injection site on my arm plus a very large raised area that was hot to the touch, these went away after a week. I then had the second shot yesterday. Nineteen hours later, I am experiencing fever, very bad cold chills, shivering, joint pain, and extreme fatigue, and every muscle in my body aches. Feels like the flu, which I have not had in many, many years. If I had known I would get this sick, I would not have had this vaccine. I’m now concerned with what they may find out about this vaccine in the future."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had a terrible reaction the first night. Chills and shakes. Didn’t sleep well. Felt like I had the flu. Next day, major headache and very tired. Had to miss half of a day of work. I can deal with a sore arm, but I have had body aches all day long. Scared to take part 2. I never had this reaction to the other shingles vaccine I took a few years ago. I am a healthy 53-year-old man."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Very fit, active woman, 72, no history of adverse response to any medication. First Shingrix injection at noon Thursday, June 20, left upper arm. Friday, June 21: Fatigue (slept much of the day), body aches, chills, headache, injection site 2' diameter, red & itchy. Read reviews of side effects on this site. Slept hot that night. Saturday, June 22: Headache, injection site 6' rectangle, red, itchy. Raised red rash appeared on both arms from injection site (corresponding location on right arm) down to wrists. On left arm, 4' above wrist, 1.5' diameter itchy red patch. A long-healed scratch directly above the patch turned red with blisters along the scratch line. Sunday, June 23: No improvement in rash, still red, very itchy. Have not used any remedy such as cortisone cream. Plan to be at doctor's office tomorrow at opening. No way will I get the second injection."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Had my first shot last November, and my arm hurt so much I had to wear a sling for three days. Just had the second shot two days ago, and the injection site is red, sore, and hot, but not as bad as the first time. However, a new symptom has shown up. My stomach is painful, almost like gas pain but higher up and no gas. And I had chills in the middle of the night. I guess better than getting shingles, though. Glad I scheduled the downtime."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received my first Shingrix dose yesterday morning and only felt the normal soreness at the injection site. About 11 hours later, I began feeling nauseous, slightly feverish, combined with chills. I also have a headache, which feels like someone is jabbing me in the head. Please note that I did also receive my tetanus and flu vaccines on the same day (different arm). My doctor warned me of possible side effects with Shingrix, but I didn’t realize it could be this bad. Definitely get the injection because it works, but try to get it during a time when you have a few days off, just in case you get side effects. We dispense tons of Shingrix at the clinic I work at, so now I can let patients know side effects may occur."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Received 1st dose of Shingrix May '18 with no side effects. Had 2nd dose 5 months later and chills started 1st night. I was unable to sleep the 1st night. The next morning, my pulse was 35 points above normal, but temperature was normal. Last night (day 2), I had severe night sweats one hour after falling asleep. My shirt, shorts, pillow, sheets, and comforter were soaked. I changed clothes and did not sweat the rest of the night. This morning (day 3), my pulse is down to about 10 points above normal, but I feel somewhat dazed. After reading comments from others, it appears that the side effects are more severe with the 2nd injection and my experience is consistent with what others have reported. I wonder if the second dose strength is the same as the first and perhaps needs to be adjusted or reduced for body weight. I will report back if the side effects last longer than a few days or up to a week."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "This is a powerful vaccine. I had the second dose yesterday. Today, I've had fatigue, body aches, chills, fever, and a racing heartbeat of 110 to 120 beats. The pharmacists did warn me that I'd be sick for two days, so I have another day of this ahead of me."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "The second dose of Shingrix was worse than the first for me. My arm hurt really bad the first time, I couldn't lift it. I felt feverish in bed one night. After the second shot a few months later, I felt fine for 10 hours, and then I suddenly started shivering with uncontrollable teeth chattering. Two hours of that, then I got hot, back and forth for another 10 hours. The fever went down over the next day, but the joint pain increased, especially in my upper back and neck. I couldn't get comfortable. I was in tears after a hot shower last night... discovered ice cold felt better. I had to double up on Motrin and Tylenol to numb the pain enough to get some sleep."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a healthy 67-year-old male. I got my first Shingrix shot in one arm and a pneumococcal vaccine in the other arm. This standard protocol may be inadvisable, since it then becomes hard to discriminate many side effects. It is now day 3, and both arms are still sore. The pneumococcal arm is so sore I can't reach the top shelf. I got a fever (with the usual chills, tiredness), which spiked at 101.5 on day 2, then finally subsided after 2.5 days (60 hours), leaving me still feeling tired on day 3. This has definitely affected my activities. Also, notably, I got a chickenpox-like rash on my chest on day 2, centered on my solar plexus and about 6 inches in spread. It wasn't painful or itchy and disappeared when the fever did. Some websites report this as a possible side effect. This is a nasty vaccine. But I still plan to get the second Shingrix shot in 2-6 months, on the presumption that the disease it prevents is nastier."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first Shingrix injection in September. I had a very sore arm and felt sluggish for a few days, but it didn't stop me. I had my second shot Tuesday, October 8th. Based on my experience with the first shot, I took Advil right before I got the shot. My arm was very sore when I went to bed, and I woke around 4 AM, and it hurt much worse. I took 2 more Advil and went back to sleep. The pain was reduced, and I went about my day until around 6 or 7 when I started feeling sore all over, became very tired, and got the chills. I barely had an appetite. I made it to almost 10 so I could walk my dog, then went to bed, taking more Advil. Today my symptoms are present, but have reduced. If I don't get shingles, it will all be worth it. PS, Medicare doesn't pay for the shots, so I spent well over $300 for the shots."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a healthy 51-year-old. I got my second dose of Shingrix yesterday. I had a slight cold, but the doctor said it wouldn't matter. I had a hard time with the first shot, but this was worse. Extremely painful arm and flu-like symptoms started about two hours after. Had to leave work and come home and go to bed. Woke up in the middle of the night freezing and drenched in sweat like I never have been before. I had muscle and joint pain all over. Today I feel better but am so dizzy I am afraid to walk around. Feel like I am going to faint, and I have never been dizzy before in my life. I'm sure this is better than shingles, but I would have liked to have been prepared by my doctor, who assured me there were no side effects except for a sore arm."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "14 hours after the initial Shingrix vaccine, I woke to chills and a 101 fever, along with a chickenpox-like rash 2 inches around the very sore injection site, headache, and aching joints. Gee, just like when I came down with influenza in 1999! Day 2 mild fever and aforementioned symptoms plus total malaise. I have a medical and public health background and am considering not getting the #2 dose. 90% efficacy with 1 dose and goes to 97% with dose 2. I think I'll play the odds and skip the 2nd dose!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I’m a 62-year-old male with no known drug allergies. Injection 1 was sort of annoying, with injection site pain for 2-3 days, fever, and chills that lasted overnight. But it passed, and I was OK. Injection 2 was far worse and created soaking night sweats alternating with nearly uncontrollable shaking chills that bordered on rigors. I had a 102.2 temp that began at 2 am on the day of the injection and lasted all night and the following day until about 7 pm. Temp finally broke and dropped to about 100.2 by 8 pm the following day. I had a debilitating migraine-like headache all day long, upset stomach with gas and cramping, overall muscle aches, and frequent urination. I took ibuprofen 600 mg every 4 hours and drank cold liquids every 2 hours. I literally soaked through my compression shirt and shorts like I had night sweats and had to change my night clothing twice. I really hope this vaccine prevents shingles down the road because it’s a tough set of injections."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Wow. Certainly worse than any other vaccine. The side effects are really bad. Lost a day of work (which is expected if you read the fine print). Had to take some leftover painkillers to offset the outrageous headache that will wake you up the first night, chills, nausea... and I have to do the booster in 2 months? Someone has a lot of nerve approving this for the general public because I had a pretty good threshold for pain/discomfort. The sore arm is the least of the symptoms."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Doctor recommended I receive this vaccine on Dec 21st. 12 hours later, I woke in the middle of the night with severe chills, joint and muscle pain, and headache. First, I couldn't get warm, so I added clothing and blankets, then I got sweats, then severe chills again. Was in bed for a day and a half. Dr. NEVER told me about severe side effects, if she had, I would have declined the vaccination. I already had the previous shingles vac, I only allowed this one on her recommendation."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "My oh my! Had the 1st dose of the vaccine on Monday, today is 2 days, and I just want to crawl in bed and not get back out. The first night, I had stomach pain, vomiting, a fever of 101F, a headache, chills, my joints and skin hurt everywhere, my arm was hot, swollen, and my entire arm was very red. The 2nd night was better because I didn't throw up. The pain is incredible (and my doctors say I have a high pain tolerance). Today I'm feeling a little better. My fever is at 100F. No throwing up, but absolutely miserable. I'm going to bed! Wish I had been made aware of what could happen so I could plan accordingly."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I was asked if I wanted a shingles shot at my former pharmacy and did not know it was the new Shingrix shot. I was alone that night and became so ill. I had a 102 fever, delirium, headache, not knowing where I was, chills, shaking, passed out... it was horrible. Thanks, big pharma! People should not be getting this shot. It was not ready, and your clinical trials should have told you that. This was so irresponsible of you. But, hey, money is more important, right? It always has been and always will be. I am scared to death to get my second shot but don’t want to get the shingles. I received no literature on this. Shame on all of you! I was so confused I could not find my phone to call anyone. I could barely see. I woke up on the floor. If I have the next shot, someone will be with me. Worst of all, I had to pay for this big drama."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a healthy 65-year-old woman. I received the Shingrix vaccine yesterday at my pharmacy. When I asked the pharmacist about possible side effects, he said maybe some redness and soreness at the injection site. I woke up in the night with chills, sweating, and a major headache. I have been laid low today with flu-like symptoms and the continued headache. I never take a sick day, but I may have to tomorrow. I wish that I had been alerted to all of the possible side effects. Not sure if I will do the second injection."
