Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have a prostate infection with an enlarged prostate and urinary issues. I was given Flomax (30 days) initially with antibiotics, but the Flomax made me dizzy and had a bad stuffed-up nose. I was then given Rapaflo to help treat the benign prostate hyperplasia and felt only a slight stuffy nose and, of course, the most common side effect, no ejaculation. These side effects are common. This medication is important in treating BPH and infections. I now have no discomfort and urinate freely. I still have two weeks to go. I won't stop taking it until the 30 days are up per doctor's orders. For those people who are worried about the no ejaculation side effect, I have to say stick through and win the war. It will come back. Skipping or less sex for a month is worth it to get back to normal."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I'm 65 and have had weak flow for years. It seems I've tried every drug available, but not much relief. The first dose of Rapaflo gave noticeable improvement within hours. I thought I had found the solution until the diarrhea started. I cut the dose to the 4 mg capsule once per day, and diarrhea was solved, but sexual problems set in. No ejaculation. Judging from this site, this is not a minor side effect, but almost a guarantee. After a few weeks, I began to have increasing difficulty reaching orgasm at all. My sex life is fading fast. Rated +10 for effectiveness and 0 for side effects."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Started to work immediately to improve urine flow and frequency. However, the side effect of retrograde ejaculation became extremely bothersome. I did stop taking it for a few weeks, and the side effect was completely reversed, however, the urine flow issue was too much of a problem, so I restarted taking the Rapaflo again. Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Difficulty urinating. Given a sample of Rapaflo by my urologist and warned about possible side effects - no ejaculation. Have been experiencing mucus and coughing and learned that this may be another side effect. Flow is much better and if you can get over the need to ejaculate, the medicine seems to achieve required results. Used Flomax for a kidney stone in the past with success but only short term. One incident of bladder infection which was treated with Cipro by my family doctor. Any idea what to do about the stuffiness or must I live with it? Also on Lipitor and blood pressure lowering medicines (cautioned the Rapaflo in conjunction with it might cause dizziness but it hasn't yet)."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Tried Terazosin but failed due to lethargy. Next, tried Flomax but failed due to extreme constant headache. Next, Uroxatral which had fewer side effects aside from a bit of nasal congestion. Had some mild constant pelvic pain so Urologist suggested Rapaflo. Very low nasal or lethargy side effects, but this medicine gave me retrograde ejaculation and took away most sex drive. This medicine would be fine if I were older and not having sex. But I am 50 and my girlfriend is starting to wonder."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "To make a long story short, Rapaflo worked, making it easier to urinate and cutting the frequency in half. However, if you still enjoy sex, well, there won't be any. You can forget having any meaningful ejaculation. After taking it for less than a week, there was absolutely no ejaculate. The frustration of trying to have sex is worse than the frequent urination to me. So if you're not interested in sex, it's a good drug and it works well, with little or no other side effects. I also tried Flomax and it's merely a little brother to Rapaflo, with pronounced dizziness and muscle fatigue. Neither is realistic for me. But give them a try, they may work better for you."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Started Rapaflo three days ago. Stream improved after the first day. Retrograde ejaculation today. Some stuffy nose and some bloating stomach pain in the evening. Debating whether to continue. Generally don't like medicines and do not take anything else. Would like to have Benign Prostate Hyperplasia corrected surgically but am afraid. Will give the medicine a little longer before deciding the next course of action."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I'm 40 and was prescribed Rapaflo after blood flow to my groin was compromised due to hip alignment post-accident. I was experiencing poor urine flow, pain, and erectile dysfunction symptoms. Within a couple of hours on Rapaflo, my groin pain went away and blood flow increased. I have large, long-lasting erections, but no ejaculation and reduced orgasm. I've taken to cycling on and off Rapaflo, 3-4 days on / a week to two off, so my ejaculations are only compromised for a couple of days, but the effects seem to last a couple of weeks."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was having very frequent urination and some discomfort in my kidneys, so I consulted the urologist. He diagnosed me with benign prostatic hyperplasia and no problem in kidneys and prescribed silodal 8 (silodosin capsules 8 mg). After a few days, the frequency of urination reduced, however, I am experiencing retrograde ejaculation and not a single drop of semen is released during sex. I am quite scared and concerned about the impact of this drug on my fertility. I am stopping this medicine immediately. I want this serious side effect to be mentioned on the medicine in bold and should be told to all patients who visit the doctor and are prescribed this drug."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was facing difficulties in urination. Every 15 min there is an urge of urination, but only a little urine passes. All reports were normal. Still, my doctor advised me to take silodosin and levofloxacin. Now my experience - both medicines have very bad side effects, especially silodosin. The main side effect is retrograde ejaculation. I have taken only 2 doses of both. I don't know about the side effects of the medicine, so I was really very scared. After discontinuation of silodosin, it took 36 hours for retrograde ejaculation to go away."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I started out taking the name brand Rapaflow, and it worked very well for my symptoms of frequent nighttime trips to the bathroom and not being able to empty my bladder. I have experienced the retrograde ejaculation, but I have found it manageable. I have not noticed a marked decrease in my sex drive and have found that it improved erections. I have found I can take it every other day and still get relief from my worst BPH symptoms. The most annoying side effect is the low blood pressure that makes it hard to stand up too quickly without almost passing out."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "40 yrs old. Had testicular cancer at 30, left testi removed. About 2 years after I started having pain in between my scrotum and rectum. Was diagnosed with prostatitis, doc put me on Rapaflo. Said it could take up to 3 weeks for it to start to work. First thing I noticed within 24 hrs was retrograde ejaculation. Very concerning at first then I read into side effects. (Thanks doc for not giving any heads up). It took me about 3 days before my pain was lessened and about 2 weeks before it was almost gone. Now I can get away without taking it for 3-5 days before I start getting sore, but it's a catch-22 since the timing for me to have a normal ejaculation is about 3-4 days off the meds. 3-4 days of use is not enough time for it to work properly."

Silodosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have BPH and wish to avoid TURP surgery. My urologist did ultrasounds, CT scans, nuclear renal scans, etc. I have urine retention, and that has led to one kidney having swelling. He ordered intermediate cathing. I have been doing that for 2 months now. My bladder is voiding to 0, and retention is capped at 300-350 cc. More scans indicate my kidneys are doing fine now. I started Rapaflo with Finasteride before cathing. It did not help void my bladder. So we moved to cathing. I have no urge to pee unless my bladder has over 400 cc. So Rapaflo/Finasteride does not seem to be working. I do have retrograde ejaculation. Surely, Rapaflo is causing it. My urologist says to keep taking R+F as it might take time. Meanwhile, int cathing is the plan."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I'm 73 and have taken silodosin for about four years for BPH. Before taking it, frequent urination informed my life. When I went for my three-mile walks, I kept track of houses in my neighborhood being renovated so I could use the porta-johnnies. Every time I had to sit in a waiting room, I had to visit the bathroom. I was up many times during the night to urinate. Silodosin's effectiveness has waned a bit, but it is still much better than before. I also have the retrograde ejaculation like everybody else. Don't be fooled by my age. My sex drive hasn't diminished a bit. I have not noticed much, if any, lessened intensity of feeling, and my wife LOVES the dry ejaculation."

"To the point: my experience with silodosin is bad. My doctor prescribed it so my kidney can get rid of small kidney stones (1.0-1.5 mm), and he gave me the 8 mg dose. Well, I don't know yet if it helped me with the stones. Actually, I think it might since I felt some kind of discomfort similar to the one you feel when stones are traveling your ureter. However, I took the pills for 8 days (skipping one day once due to a conference), and the side effects were (and still are - I stopped taking the pills today) very bad: dizziness, photophobia, muscle pain - to the point I wasn't feeling safe driving my car or going to the supermarket. Of course, also no ejaculation - I wonder how reliable the stats/studies are since I believe that, in reality, almost everybody has no ejaculation while taking this drug. Maybe it helps in the case of BPH, but if you have really small stones like me (smaller than 2 mm), I suggest dropping this drug if you feel bad after taking it. It's not worth it."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "40 y/o male diagnosed with bladder outlet obstruction. The doctor put me on Rapaflo as a last medication effort for bladder retention. The number of times I have to go during the day has gone from 7 to 3-4 times a day. Flow is unbelievably better. Like the other reviews have said, the main drawback is the retrograde ejaculation. The strange thing is it comes and goes depending on the time of day."
