Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "Husband has been using Biotene spray for years due to the medicines that give him dry mouth. A few nights ago, he sprayed some in his mouth, and within a few minutes, his throat constricted, he kept coughing and choking, and I almost had to take him to the hospital. He drank some water and then took 2 antihistamines, which seemed to help. He complained of a cough and soreness in his throat for a couple of days after. He is better now."

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "My dentist recommended these to me, and I tried it last night. I have trouble with not being able to swallow my saliva at night. I went to bed fine, but an hour later, my throat started to close. My throat tightened like sandpaper, I have bumps in my mouth, my whole neck and face hurt. It took away my good saliva and gave me this thick foam saliva that was hard to swallow. I took a Claritin to at least help, but I feel like I have a bad cold now."

For Xerostomia "I recently came across a new product that's on the market called Lubricity, and I LOVE IT. It's an oral spray and so far seems to last MUCH longer than any other dry mouth spray I have ever used. I suffer from dry mouth and have for about 5 years. I ordered this product online since it's not sold in any stores near me. I came across it when doing some research online. They did offer a coupon code on the website when I bought it, seems like they have a different % off discount now but always seem to offer something. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!"

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "I got a CPAP machine, and my mouth has been cotton dry at night. Miserable. After around 6 months, I got the first cavity I’ve had since I was 12 years old (I’m over 50). Since dry mouth causes cavities, I decided to try XyliMelts, and WOW! I figured they would probably help some, hoping at least to make my mouth more comfortable at night, but I didn’t realize they could stimulate such saliva flow. I even drooled on my pillow. All I need is one a night. It sticks just right and is gone when I wake up. This is a fantastic product."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have had dry mouth since my insurance company stopped paying for the name-brand medication. I ended up with a bacterial infection in my mouth because of the lack of saliva. The dentist recommended Biotene products, which worked well but only while the product was in my mouth. I started using XyliMelts 2 months ago, 1 each night, and loved the results. I wear retainers that cover my teeth and parts of my gums, so I use wax to stick the XyliMelt to my retainers. Recently, I have noticed the XyliMelt has irritated my gum and my mouth, right where the XyliMelt was placed. My daughter had warned me about some medications that people place on their gums that have caused their gums to recede. I started placing the melt closer to the front of my mouth to note the condition of my gums where I place the melt. I think the directions to place it on a back molar is because the front of your mouth holds the melt too tightly, causing irritation. The melt was also more effective on a molar too."

Saliva substitutes topical for Mucositis "Has greatly improved my condition. Before use, I could not get a sentence out without my mouth drying up completely. I would constantly have to remove strings from my mouth. It was enormously embarrassing, and I would avoid conversations with people I didn't know. It's still not perfect, as I have to spray if I'm in a conversation, but at least I can now have one!!!"

Saliva substitutes topical for Mucositis "I'm a mouth breather when sleeping. I've been taking two of these at bedtime and usually two more halfway through the night. At first, they helped create saliva. I also started getting irritated gums where I attached them - that went away after a couple of weeks. Four months later, they don't create much saliva, I once again need to take sips of water during the night. The discs turn chalky in my mouth and irritate my throat. When I don't use them, it's worse - no saliva, choking, and lots more sips of water during the night. Neither is ideal for a restful night's sleep, but they help a little. It may be more effective for others that create some saliva on their own."

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "I’ve been using it for about three years for a dry mouth at night, ever since getting a CPAP machine. Usually use one a night, and I put the tablet in a different location of my mouth each night. Have had great success with them and no side effects. I’d recommend that people try them to see if it works as well for them."

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "I gave dry mouth as a side effect of a medication I’ve been taking. I have been using Biotene mouthwash, and it doesn’t really do much for me at all. I’ve also used the Biotene gel, it helps a little, but not much and not for long."

Saliva substitutes topical for Mucositis "My dentist prescribed for me to use after scaling and root planning. He said it would help my mouth heal faster and reduce inflammation. I used it 2x a day, and I noticed my gums were not sore and my breath was fresher. I'm happy with the product."

Saliva substitutes topical "Biotene is an excellent treatment for dry mouth and I have been using it for 18 months. However, in the last few weeks, this mouthwash has caused me to create extra saliva in my mouth, which tends to annoy me. I suggest that users of this product consider this side effect prior to purchase."

Saliva substitutes topical "I suffer horribly from dry mouth, Sjogren's syndrome may be the culprit. Started to use the throat lozenges and sprayed my super dry throat and mouth at least 3 times a night. I experienced horrific acid reflux for the first time to this degree. The acid liquids went into my lungs and constricted my airways, causing an almost deadly asthma attack. Please be careful. I'm sure biotin was the culprit."

Saliva substitutes topical "I started two nights ago and they've worked wonderfully. I don't keep waking up at night with dry mouth or mucus that makes it hard to breathe. The only thing is that when I go to brush my teeth, my tongue ends up numb afterward. I'm thinking I'm spreading whatever is left from the XyliMelts and it's causing numbness. I never had this issue before the XyliMelts. So, I don't know. I might have to stop because the negative reviews scare me."

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "This did absolutely nothing for me. I am a mouth-breather at night. I've tried humidifiers too. Nothing seems to prevent me from getting dry mouth during the night. Dry mouth can lead to cavities or gum disease, so when I wake up in the middle of the night (hey, I'm 66 -- it comes with the territory), I am now just using regular mouthwash to kill any bacteria that are multiplying in the absence of saliva. There were no side effects of Biotene."

Saliva substitutes topical for Xerostomia "Not sure if it is the Xylimelts or not. These do work for dry mouth. Been using them for a few months. I also have acid reflux. My throat hurts now when I sing in choir. Also, some back teeth have started to hurt. I discontinued usage for now. Used Biotene last night instead. I did a nice job."

Saliva substitutes topical for Mucositis "I have chemo-induced mouth ulcers, so I had numerous ulcers on the entire mucous membrane in my mouth and sides of my tongue. Used bicarbonate, started using toothpaste for babies, and a super cute Pikachu toothbrush for babies. Within a week, I would say 50 percent healed. Then at the hospital, I was told to use this instead for some days. Works well, but other than it being less painful than using dissolved bicarbonate, I don’t see the added value with what I believe to be the US list price of around 280 dollars or the price of close to 90 EUR in Belgium. I was lucky enough to get it for free from my local hospital, as the nurses said it’s too expensive, bless them. So I find the medication a ten for efficiency but a four for (normal) value for money."

For Xerostomia "Allie: The part of XyliMelts that causes your problem is the natural adhesive. You have developed a sensitivity. The manufacturer offers a version of XyliMelts with a different all-natural adhesive that doesn't cause your problem. It is called 'Sensitive Mouth.' You might try it."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have used this product for many years. Over time, it has disintegrated the glue that was in my crown on both sides of my mouth. I now have two places in my mouth needing to have dental work. The dentist tells me the only thing that can go there are implants. $$$$ implants run $5,000 each. I do not have that kind of money. My research has shown me that this has happened to other people using the product. I feel XyliMelts is responsible and should pay for this, not only in my case, but in anyone else who has this issue. I find the medication effective, but not to the point of losing teeth and costing me an excessive amount of money."
