For GERD "Please read my review, it may help you. I was on ranitidine 150 mg x 2 per day for four months that failed to work. It was the most awful drug I think anyone could have taken. At first, my acid reflux at the time was so bad it was giving me sinusitis, panic attacks, sweaty palms, headaches, heart palpitations. When someone says acid reflux does not give you the above, they are talking rubbish, it does, and here's how I know. Ranitidine gave me insomnia and anxiety, it was evil, to put it politely. In desperation, I went to A&E and to the walk-in clinic. They said I must have a problem with my heart as it was beating so fast. Omeprazole works, and the best brand is LORAC, it is blue and white. Google it and specifically ask for it. xx"

For GERD "Twelve-year-old child took 20 mg once a day and felt nauseated, dizzy, with a headache, sun sensitivity, and restless. Took for one month. Experienced rebound when withdrawn. Went to half dose for one week before completely discontinuing."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Been on this drug for 14 days now, it sure helped with my stomach acid. I felt relief after 3 days, but then I started having anxiety, headaches, diarrhea, brain fog, my eyesight was going out of focus. I literally have been calling off work because of this drug. Beware."

For GERD "My condition: GERD with mild hiatal hernia and occasional gastritis. Two 20mg omeprazole capsules (encapsulated granules) twice daily for 3 months, followed by 20mg twice daily for 1 month to taper off; for a near-acute gastritis following an endoscopic exam with no other abnormalities or HB infection. For me, it seemed to work better when I took it 1 hour before breakfast and 1 hour before (at 5 pm) dinner; rather than before going to bed... 1. It takes at least 3 days before any decrease in heartburn; but if I eat some wrong foods (acidic), my unforgiving stomach lets me know in the evening. 2. A few spaced-out mild headaches lasting up to an hour. 3. Dry lips with no irritation."

For GERD "So I’m still going through tests to figure out if my acid reflux is caused by GERD or an ulcer. Nonetheless, my doctor prescribed this for me in the meantime because I literally wasn’t eating, the pain was too great after eating. Day 3, I started feeling the headaches, and I’m going to day 7, and I’m completely a nutcase. I’m already diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Also, it doesn’t help that I have PMDD as well. This did nothing but ramp it up to 100. It’s the nausea and shakes for me that really did it, and the headaches really topped the cake. The dizziness is almost constant. I loathe this, I don’t think it’s worth it. Please look into alternatives with your doctor and advocate for yourself because they WILL try to convince you that this is normal, that you’re being dramatic. You are not. Your feelings and pain are valid. You deserve better than this poison. (20mg 3x a day/7 days)"

For GERD "Omg, where do I even start? I got an endoscopy, and the doctor said I have acid reflux and H. pylori. I was prescribed omeprazole (August 2020). It was okay for the first few weeks, then out of nowhere, I started belching nonstop, and I still do to this day. It caused me heart palpitations, headaches, brain fog, anxiety, depression, extreme weight loss. I stopped it and started taking anxiety medications. Everything is all good, then I just, 3 days ago (December 17, 2021), I wanted to try it one more time just because I had heartburn and acid reflux very badly, and it worked good the first day. 2nd day, same symptoms, never again in my life. Ever. Now we all know the reason why we all have the same problems. I went back to my GI doctor several times complaining. What did he do? Upped the dosage. OMG, never again."

For GERD "After the first day, started to feel dizzy and a bit unbalanced in the head. Now at day 4 and feel like total rubbish, I feel shivery, have a bit of a headache, stomach is still sore from what the doctor thinks is gastritis, so have had no relief from belching or acid reflux either. Muscles feel achy, and my throat feels a bit sore and have a bit of a dry cough. Could be GERD getting worse, but I’ve cut out coffee and alcohol and am eating smaller meals."

For Stomach Ulcer "This medicine was absolutely no good for me at all. Doctor suspected an ulcer due to some ongoing pain in a specific area. Within days of starting this, my brain was completely foggy, I had constant severe stomach pain, both diarrhea and constipation, nausea, horrible gas pains, and a serious headache that Advil couldn't even touch. I honestly felt so sick for so many days that I thought about going to the ER more than once, and it didn't make the original pain subside at all. I didn't immediately suspect the omeprazole, but then realized that starting it was the only recent change. Sure enough, within one day of stopping it, I'm much better. Still not myself at all, but I'm hoping everything will subside with a few days."

For GERD "I've had mostly positive experiences with omeprazole and much prefer them over H2-receptor antagonists like ranitidine. I was working a 5-day-a-week job, but GERD meant I was only capable of working 2-3 of those days. Within a week of starting PPI therapy, I was working the full week, and within a couple of months, felt fit and healthy enough to take on overtime to the tune of 13 days on shift, 1 day off. I've read about things such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and vitamin B12 deficiency, so I take supplements to boost those levels and stave off any unwanted long-term side effects. As far as short-term side effects go, I've had some minor constipation from it, some minor aversion to light, and a couple of tension headaches in the first 2 months."

"I have been taking this for a week now. I was put on omeprazole while they are still doing tests to find out what's wrong. Side effects are awful headaches, increased depression, and anxiety, but could also be from not knowing what is wrong with me. Two months of pain that is often so bad I can't do anything but curl up in bed and run to the bathroom. Food comes out explosively from both ends, and this little pill stopped that. I can go out and eat (no citric acid, no caffeine, no seeded foods)-not much left to eat, but I can eat without being sick. I'm always hungry and full of gas-also side effects from this pill. I don't want to take it for too long, as it has really bad side effects from prolonged use. Praying there isn't anything seriously wrong with my stomach. I do recommend it for temporary use."

For GERD "Took Famotidine for many years for mild acid reflux, which manifested in chest and shoulder pinching-like pain. Recently, with increased coffee intake, I was waking up with a frequent sore throat. Started also having bad left side stomach pain, so PCP prescribed Omeprazole. After reading the list of scary side effects, I didn’t want to take it. PCP said serious side effects were with long-term use; I was to take it for 14 days. So, I gave it a try. Every morning, I had a dull headache. The headaches went away after I had caffeine. I continued to also take Famotidine since Omeprazole was not fast acting. I was very tired; the Omeprazole could have been decreasing the effectiveness of my thyroid med and B-12. I quit it after 9 days since I was having a CT scan with barium swallow. Not sure if Omeprazole helped me since I started a bland restrictive diet and tried to reduce my stress. I increased my Allegra to 2x a day since the sore throat might be from post-nasal drip at night and not from acid."

For Duodenal Ulcer "Omeprazole was absolutely horrible for the month I took it! The main side effect I experienced was a terrible headache, which I constantly had. And nothing I took for it even touched it - even my migraine medication didn't help! It was truly awful!"

For Stomach Ulcer "After taking omeprazole in the morning with food, I had a headache by the afternoon, which escalated to a full-blown wicked headache (migraine) the next morning. Other symptoms were tearfulness, nausea, and vomiting. Needless to say, I did not take it the next morning since I felt as if it was the end of me. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I took it the second day. At the end of the second day, I had a heavy-headed feeling. I had to take two Tylenol to get rid of the headache since I have a stomach ulcer (caused from taking 81 mg of aspirin a day and had to be careful what to take for the headache)."

For GERD "I have a strange relationship with this medication. It helps when my acid is really bad, I have to take it for a few days, and then I feel good. But if I continue taking it, I feel awful and have all the side effects everyone else has listed. I stop taking it once I start to feel better, and then after a few weeks' break, I find I need to reach for it again. They say rebound acid should only last around two weeks, so I don’t think it’s that as I go nearly a month without taking it, and then all of a sudden acid comes back in full force. Every time I start taking it again, I get headaches, funny vision, and tiredness on the first day, but by day 3, it’s settled, then by day 10 of taking it, I get anxiety, funny feelings all over my body, and general unease and feelings of being unwell. I guess I’ll just have to keep dipping in and out with this drug until something better comes along!"

For GERD "Pros: no acid reflux. Cons: headaches, body/joint aches, increased anxiety. Daily diarrhea, bloating. I get to about day 10 and have to stop. I take citalopram for anxiety (long before reflux issues). I find I can't keep my anxiety symptoms in check while on this medication."
