For Panic Disorder "Ativan works for anxiety, however, I get severe mouth sores from Ativan. Not sure why or if anyone else has this same problem. But my mouth, throat, and gums hurt so severely for a week after taking Ativan. And then the canker sores, lord. For me, it wasn't worth the side effects."

For Anxiety "I've been on Ativan for only 2 months. At first, it worked. Then, I had to take more to get the same calming effect. Now, it makes me feel nausea, headachy, and dizziness. I feel awful. And, it hardly takes away the anxiety. I take it to keep the anxiety from coming back --- 2 mg per day. On top of that, I've developed low blood salt or hyponatremia, a potentially very dangerous condition that has been linked with Ativan. I so wish I'd never started it. I see an endocrinologist in 2 days. I so wish I'd never taken Ativan and want my former energy and self back. Instead, I feel dull, depressed, and miserable. I'm going off Ativan (weaning off, which I hear is hard) as soon as possible!!!"

For Anxiety "Ativan worked a little bit the first time I took it, and I only took it in emergencies when my anxiety was really high. But it lost its effect after a while to the point where it did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't have any issues with withdrawal or side effects, no drowsiness. I wonder if I even took the pill correctly! Anyway, I'm on a different medication now, so hopefully that actually works for me."

Lorazepam for Nausea/Vomiting "Don't you believe it! I was admitted to the hospital for colitis. They gave me every nausea medicine, and it didn't work, then they gave me Ativan. It didn't work either. The only reason they gave it to me was by then they thought my complaint was psychosomatic and wanted to prove me a liar by showing that Ativan stopped my symptoms, so my complaints were not real, only anxiety. Useless drug, Ativan. Don't use it."

Lorazepam for Light Anesthesia "I was prescribed 2 mg Ativan to take 2 hours before a dentist appointment (I’m a 110 lb woman). I took it 2 hours prior, and within a half hour, the whole room was spinning, and I was getting nauseous. I was only not dizzy if I was laying down. It seemed like an impossible task to walk to the car and be driven to the dentist and endure an appointment in that state. I stayed home and immediately fell asleep for 5 hours. I felt nauseous upon waking, and it got better after eating a small amount of bland food. It is now evening, and I feel better, just very groggy and a little slow feeling. I would rather endure the dentist appointment than go through this again."

Lorazepam for Insomnia "Ativan ruined my life. My psychiatrist prescribed me 2mg to take every night while trying out an antidepressant. After about 7 weeks, I was addicted to Ativan, and when I tried to stop taking it, I had seizures and panic attacks. I had to keep taking it to stabilize. Then I had to switch to Valium and slowly taper off the benzodiazepines to avoid another seizure. It took me a year and a half to taper off, and I now have chronic fear, anxiety, tinnitus, and insomnia. I wish I never touched this drug."

For Insomnia "4 mg lorazepam + 6 mg prazosin + 150 mg hydroxizine... does nothing for my insomnia - I'm wide awake. My VA doctors are worthless, and so are these meds. The system is broken for combat vets with real problems. They only care if you have the 'sniffles,' and OOOOOH better get your flu shot. I haven't had a flu shot in 20 years, and I've spent 11 of those in Iraq and Afghanistan... still haven't been sick since 2006."

Lorazepam for Anxiety "This is by far the scariest experience I have EVER had with a drug. Ativan immediately took the anxiety away but the after effects were horrible. I took it intermittently for 2 weeks and then noticed when I didn't take it consistently my anxiety was 100 percent worse. I was crawling out of my skin and so irritable. I also had uncontrollable muscle shaking and memory problems. This drug is very dangerous for some people. I'll stick to cognitive behavioral therapy."

For Status Epilepticus "I have seizures, and afterwards, it leaves my brain utterly scrambled. It can take weeks before I feel normal. My doctor prescribed Ativan, taken as needed, to help me relax postictal (after seizure). I had no idea how addictive it was, but when I discovered how much it helped me fall asleep, I started taking 1 mg every night. It wasn't until I tried to stop that I realized how addicted my body had become. Been taking 1 mg a night for years. Earlier this year, I had a bad seizure that took weeks to recover from and was taking x2 a day which left me 14 short. When I went to refill it, the pharmacy refused because it was too early. I ended up in the ER. I have never felt the pain of withdrawals before, it was enough to make me decide to stop. Been tapering for a couple of months, just tapered down to 0.25 mg a night. So far, no big issues. A week after each taper, I've been taking melatonin to help me sleep. I think that has helped. I would advise people to stay away from benzos. Like me, one day you may be cut off."

For Status Epilepticus "The hospital gave me lorazepam after having seizures. I was hoping this would be a better medication after the bad experience I had with the other seizure meds I had taken. This one was even worse, caused bad depression, racing heartbeat, my head felt strange, was not what I had expected. I took it for a week, said never again, and went back to taking the seizure meds, Keppra."

Lorazepam for Anxiety "I absolutely hate it. I was given Ativan last summer when I was having a total mental breakdown. At first, I waited and waited and felt absolutely nothing whatsoever, then I realized that it made me even more anxious and caused me to lash out at my parents. They ended up having to take me back to my house because they just couldn't deal with me. I decided to get some drinks at the bar and then at the cider house, and that's when it finally started to kick in. I was having a lot of trouble talking and had all these weird muscle jerks and having maybe convulsions."

For Anxiety "I'm reading all of these positive reviews, but if I'm completely honest, this is making it much worse. It makes me feel like I'm having more of an out-of-body experience. Like I can't grasp reality, however, I am completely able to carry on as if everything is just fine. It's just very uncomfortable. I do not recommend this over Xanax in any way. Not for me anyway."

For Anxiety "Not sure what fillers they are putting in lorazepam now. I have been on it many years and always worked for my anxiety, but now it makes it worse. More fillers, less medicine? Makes me dizzy, lightheaded, and a sick feeling. Maybe need to get off the generic and go to Ativan. But insurances won't cover them. Why make non-generic if no one can get them?"

For Status Epilepticus "My son with seizures at an early age was already on Dilantin for seizures, but the doctors wanted to replace Dilantin with a different drug. Over a period of years, they again mention trying out new medications. He went in and was given lorazepam as a replacement for Dilantin. He came home, and in less than a week, it was horrible. He was returned to the hospital, where they stopped the lorazepam, and now I am attempting to get him back to where he was with Dilantin, but he is hallucinating, and it is so terrifying the images he is experiencing. I do hope that this will soon pass, and we are so disappointed with what has happened. He lost all mobility at one point. Be careful with this med."

For Light Anesthesia "It didn't work at all for me, was given 3 mg to take prior to dental appointment, that appointment has been postponed now. I was unable to stop moving, dizzy, talking extremely fast, felt like I needed to run and run for miles. Was not calm at all. What happened to me is apparently uncommon, but I won't be taking this for dentist appointments again."

For Anxiety "My doctor finally prescribed me a benzo after having numerous meltdowns in her office. Also after switching SSRI medications multiple times. I have had panic attacks and anxiety since I was 15 years old. She wrote me lorazepam, and I was so happy. I wanted something to stop the attacks. She wrote me 0.5 mg, so the next panic attack I took one, and nothing. So next panic attack I tried it again, and nothing. I knew you could take up to 2 mg, so the next panic attack I took 1 mg. So next I tried 2 mg. Nothing. I'm a pharmacy tech, so I asked my pharmacist if that happened often, and he was very surprised. He said it should have helped, and he didn't understand at all how I didn't feel at ease once I had taken the drug. I have never been on drugs, I had never taken a benzo before. All I take is Effexor and Prozac. I was so disappointed, and I don't think my doctor will ever give me anything again because it was like pulling teeth to get that prescription. I don't know why it's so hard to get help."

For Anxiety "First 2 weeks helped, but noticed lost appetite within 6 weeks. And a lot of muscle aches and pains where I couldn't move legs. Sometime towards 2 months in, started bad headaches and burning in head. After 4 months, even lost 20 pounds, and I was only 135 pounds. Dr. put me on clonazepam, but want off all of it. Things are supposed to help, not make it worse."

Lorazepam for ICU Agitation "I was given this for post-op pain in recovery instead of narcotics because an anesthesiologist deemed me a drug user because I requested no morphine due to severe itching and scratching until I bled. I could not take ibuprofen due to renal disease. I was given 2 mg Ativan IV and told it was pain medication. I could feel every bit of the pain but could not speak... people were walking by me and would say, “she is asleep now,” but I was screaming inside. All it did was drug me to the point I could not speak but could feel every bit of the pain. On the way home from the hospital, I went psychotic in the car trying to hurt other people. This left me with nightmares for 2-3 weeks, depression, anger, and memory loss. It was not disclosed what was given until I kept pressing them because it was the worst surgical experience ever. The cover-up was the worst. It hindered my healing from the surgery."

For Anxiety "I’m 23 and suffer from very bad anxiety. My doctor let me try 0.5 mg of Ativan, and, as soon as I took a dose of it, I began to hallucinate! Visually and audibly. That made my anxiety even worse. It was like taking Ambien in the middle of the day. When I told my doctor, he said that’s actually a common side effect of Ativan, which surprised me. I don’t know why I have this reaction to Ativan since Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin work absolutely fine for me and don’t cause this scary side effect. I’m sticking to Klonopin. There are much better anti-anxiety medications than Ativan."
