For Birth Control "I would not recommend Skyla. I had it in for less than a year and I kept getting reoccurring yeast infections which I never had before. In addition, I believe it has led to my recent miscarriage. My doctor couldn’t understand why I had so much scar tissue and was never pregnant prior to my miscarriage, which we attribute to this. I believe Skyla made my lining thin which it says it does. Consequently, it thus created a lot of scar tissue on the my lining and it was never able to get thick, which is needed for a healthy pregnancy, because of the scarring it caused. As a result, I miscarried and have now had three hysteroscopy surgeries to remove excess scar tissue which couldn’t be from an early miscarriage. So one DNC and three surgeries later my husband and I are still trying to get pregnant. So if you plan on becoming pregnant in the future I urge women not to take this as it could greatly impact your chances like it has mine."

For Birth Control "Ladies do not do what I did and read all these reviews and freak yourself out! When I got my iud placed they gave me a pill to help open up my cervix so it would be less painful. I was so terrified to get it done due to the horrifying reviews. I finally got up the courage to finally have the doctor do it. Ladies it was nothing! They put the clamp on my cervix which didn't feel great but it wasn't ungodly painful. The actual insertion took like 30 seconds and then it was done. I felt a cramp but not worse than the ones I get before I'm about to start. After it was done I had mild cramping for an hour then nothing. I also had no spotting at all. Please remember pain is subjective and don't let a terrible review stop you from getting it."

For Birth Control "I switched to the Skyla after having a horrifying experience with the Paraguard (Don't recommend it if you have a small uterus or haven't had kids like myself). I had the Skyla inserted and my experience has been great so far, this IUD doesn't release much hormones and is smaller than the others. I'm very sensitive to hormones and I haven't had many adverse affects. I highly recommend this! Light periods, minimal cramping, no acne (I also don't have acne), no weight changes."

For Birth Control "I wanted to leave my experience, due to the very mixed reviews. I guess it really narrows it down to each individuals pain tolerance and the experience and how accurate your doctor is. I have no kids and I am 28 years old, I took no pain killers before hand. The entire procedure took 5 min. And for 30 second there was sharp pain, like a cramp mixed with a side stitch but in that area. And it was done. Afterwards felt a little strange. I think it was more mental, because of the horror reviews. But it wasn't bad at all. 30 seconds for 3 years of protection. Deal! I had light bleeding for a few hours. And took Tylenol when I got home, more just because. I really didn't have bad cramps. Just light cramps, more as a precaution I took 2 Tylenol. Went up the road to home depot bought some paint, and painted a spare room that afternoon. It's now a week since I have had it inserted. I feel fine! :) hope this helps you make your decision."

For Birth Control "I had this IUD for a grand total of 3 months. Everything was great, or so I thought. Insertion was a nightmare, and took like 15 minutes because my cervix just wouldn’t let the insertion device in. Cramping afterwards was bad, but not something I couldn’t bare. I felt the actual arms of the IUD unfold within me, and it was in that moment I knew something wasn’t right. Cramps subsided after 3 weeks. First period was fine. Month two came with very odd side effects, month three came with a positive pregnancy test and an ultrasound confirmation of malpositioning. FYI, tricare is now discontinuing covering the Skyla, and I can see why."

For Birth Control "My experience with Skyla has been pretty good so far, I have had it in for 4 months now. Getting it inserted was fairly simple and I felt little pain. The cramping was pretty severe immediately after the procedure and for the next couple days, so I suggest having someone drive you to and from the procedure. I had spotting on and off for the next 3 months but no other side effects."

For Birth Control "I got this about two months ago, and have not stopped bleeding since. It's been great, as far as not gaining any weight and my skin actually clearing up, but seriously? I've been having a full on period for 6 weeks now! I went in and my doctor didn't know what was wrong because "this is the first time she has seen it" So I am a little frustrated with how this is being handled. All I want to do is not bleed! Has anyone else had this problem?"

For Birth Control "I had skyla placed Dec of 2014. The placement wasn't too painful but the cramping afterward was pretty rough. I had spotting on and off for 2 months which is normal. Then the bleeding stopped all together and I had no period or anything. However, One morning I experienced severe lower abdominal pain and went to the ER. Turns out I had two cyst, and one had burst (never had a history of cysts before the IUD) and also had an ectopic (or tubal) pregnancy. I had to have the IUD removed immediately and ended up having laparoscopic surgery. Needless to say, getting Skyla was definitely not the right choice for me..."

For Birth Control "I have had the Skyla IUD in me since October 2014. The insertion wasnt so bad, cramps for a day. Birth control pills were not agreeing with my body and surprisingly Skyla has been the best option for me. During the first two months I had constant spotting and mood swings. So far I have had no new side effects. I do spot a little bit during days my periods are supposed to arrive (which, isnt that often. Maybe like once per 4 months or more) and if I sit in a funny position sometimes i can feel the IUD poke me. My boyfriend and I do not use condoms anymore, and felt no need for them. I havent had any pregnancy scares at all. Definitely recommend for younger girls who have never had children, and dont plan to have any for the next while"

For Birth Control "I got the Skyla inserted last week. Before I went to the appointment I was petrified by everything that I had read on the internet (I should know better). People saying that is was worse than child birth or that they passed out from the pain! In reality it took no more than 3 minutes with 2 major cramps. They each lasted a couple of seconds and were maybe a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale (and I don't usually get cramps at all). Afterwards there was very mild cramping (2 out of 10) on and off for a few hours, but then nothing! I got this done on the second day of my period, which turned into just light spotting for a day and then stopped all together. Since then I've had zero cramps or spotting! Love it!"

For Birth Control "I have had Skyla for a month now. Personal experience is that I have random period-like cramps that only last a few minutes or so and occasional spotting but nothing too serious. Period has always been regular like clockwork. I got Skyla inserted while menstruating. Next period came right on time and my normal 4 days but was so light I didn't even have to wear a tampon, just a thin pantyliner. Had some pretty ridiculous mood swings for the first week or two while adjusting to the hormones but it seems to have leveled out now. Recently, dry skin on my face and my boobs are fuller and ache sometimes because of it I guess. Sex drive through the roof. Hope this helps balance out the horror story reviews! Minor side effects but worth it overall."

For Birth Control "I had an awful, detrimental, as well as disfiguring experience with the Skyla IUD. There was, with Skyla emotional side effects and more. I don't recommend this to any women who has had past experience with anxiety or depression, or whose bodies are extremely sensitive to hormonal additives. These past two months have been awfully miserable for me. I have fallen back into my depression and anxiety, my hair has fallen out, I have slightly lost my appetite, I developed awful rashes all over my body and more. I essentially turned into my worst enemy, into a monster. There's been days, many days, where I haven't been able to get out of bed. I have a history of migraine headaches, and with the IUD, I found myself suffering from tension and migraine headaches every day. I am a cancer survivor, and I could say that these emotional side effects exceeded the the physical side effects I had from chemo."

For Birth Control "This Skyla IUD changed my life. I’m 28 and had been on oral contraceptives since I was 19. The past few years my anxiety has been terrible and I’ve been struggling to enjoy sex even in loving/healthy relationships. This year I trended my anxiety attacks and they synced up with my cycle! I did more research and found out that TONS of oral contraceptives have terrible side effects on mental health. I decided to try Skyla due to its lower hormone levels and the fact that it’s localized hormone And with complete sincerity, this IUD has changed everything. I rarely suffer from bad anxiety anymore and it’s been 1 month. I’ve also noticed a big change in my sex life! I feel like I actually have my libido back! The initial implantation is uncomfortable and I had bad cramping the 1st day but ibuprofen helped. And now I rarely cramp at all! Definitely worth a try for anyone who hasn’t felt like themselves on oral contraceptives. I’m so glad I switched!"

For Birth Control "My experience with skyla was very short lived. My gyno told me that the hormone in skyla worked locally and really wouldn’t effect my emotions. Just a warning for women who have dealt with anxiety and or depression, do not get skyla. From day 2 of having skyla I experienced side effects such as anxiety, panic, bloating and depression. I have just gotten it removed. Please do additional research before getting this. I know it may work for some, but my body hated it."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla inserted in me when I was around 17 years old and again around the age 20 and plan on continuing this birth control. I love it! The insertion can be uncomfortable but it is quick. In my experience, I’ve had much lighter periods, however stronger cramps but they don’t last longer than two days max. I’ve been able to maintain my weight (and lose some) unlike other birth control methods which made me gain weight easily and quickly. I find this method of birth control has mixed opinions, but I truly have nothing but good things to say about it. I"

For Birth Control "I have been on Skyla since Dec. 12 2014. So Just over a month. (NO KIDS). Getting it put in felt like really bad cramp with a lot of pressure. They insert the stick and measurer you first. (10 seconds.) They then put the stick in again and put in Skyla (10Sec). I was dizzy and felt sick for a few minutes. It passed. I had cramps for a day and a half. Then I felt great. I was on my period when I had it inserted. They say the cervix is softer and the process will be less painful. Overall it has been great. No major cravings. My appetite has decreased since I have been off my last birth control (pill.) I cramp once in a while. My first period was longer. I would recommend! Migraine 90% gone! My complexion on birth control is great! Including Skyla."

For Birth Control "Absolutely horrid. Had this for over 2 years and could not take it anymore. Hair loss, weight gain, acne, depression, mood swings, dry skin, bloating, no sex drive.. The list goes on. After going on Skyla I got horrible stretch marks all over my butt, thighs, boobs, and hips. I am 20 years old, 5'10 and weigh 136 pounds WTF!! I want to cry just thinking about birth control. I will never take birth control again. Look into charting and temperature reading. Been off skyla for a little over a month now and I already feel better, have lost some weight/bloating, hair stopped falling out. Maybe it works for some women, but it's not even worth the risk in my opinion."

For Birth Control "I really wanted to like the skyla, but I had a horrible experience. Getting an iud was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. My best friend loves her skyla, has no side effects, and got another placed after 3 years, so take my comments with a grain of salt. First, insertion was the worst pain I’ve ever felt (and I’ve fractured my back in 2 places..) I threw up immediately after. Second, this gave me cystic acne. I had panic attacks before leaving my house because I was so disgusted with my face. Third, I had ovarian cysts and severe cramps. The kind of cramps that make you black out upon standing up and throw up. Fourth, I could hardly stand to have sex. If my boyfriend hit the iud, the pain was paralyzing. One pro is its efficacy. Knowing that I was virtually protected from pregnancy was empowering. It did not inherently decrease my libido, but the fear of pain and low self-esteem due to my skin made me too anxious to have sex. I did not gain weight."

For Birth Control "I got the Skyla almost 2 years ago. So far, everything has gone great with the IUD. I get my period maybe every 3-4 months (light spotting for about 2 days tops). I do get cramps every month for about one entire day. It's not anything crazy or out of the ordinary (beats having periods and having kids!) I definitely recommend it. The insertion process was a bit painful and I had cramps for about 3 hours, but with some ibuprofen and a heating pad, it can sure be tolerable. I used to be on the pill and shot for a while but both of those made me really depressed and I gained a ton of weight. Which is why I switched to the IUD. Skyla releases a smaller dose of hormones so that really helps to "feel normal". good luck ladies!"

For Birth Control "I had Skyla for 3 years & only had it removed because it was about to expire (I replaced it with Kyleena because it lasts for 5 years). In the past I had tried both estrogen/progestin birth control pills as well as the mini pill (progestin only), & reacted horribly (bloating, mood swings, etc.), so I was really nervous about Skyla. I am very small (5’1”, 96 lbs), & sensitive to hormones, & with Skyla I had few to no side effects. Overall my experience was amazing! I actually lost weight (more so due to diet changes & a lot of running), & while I did have acne for months 3-6, that passed & now my skin is a clear! Honestly the only long term side effect was menstrual cramping, which was tolerable. I have been with my SO for 2 years, & we have never used additional protection, & there has never been a time when I have had to deal with pregnancy-scare jitters. Overall 10/10, don’t let the negative reviews scare you, Skyla offers freedom & spontaneity and is totally worth it!:)"

For Birth Control "This is the first birth control that has truly worked for me. Over the years I've tried four types of pill, and a copper coil, and they were all terrible in their own special ways. The pills tended to decrease my sex drive to pretty much nothing, and make me feel overwhelmed and miserable and like I wasn't myself anymore. The copper coil made my periods unbearably painful. I've had Skyla (or Jaydess) for a bit more than three months now and it's been great. The downsides are that I have experienced quite a lot of spotting (although it seems to have stopped now!), a few painful cramps, and I think my moods have been a bit more up and down than before. But there are more upsides: I have, if anything, a higher sex drive than normal, and when I say my moods are more up and down I mean in a manageable way as opposed to uncontrollably crying on the pill. I basically still feel like myself, which I never did on the pill. Oh and also I'm not pregnant so it's doing it's fundamental job yay."

For Birth Control "Hi Ladies- like you, I read these reviews before my insertion. With all of the other experiences before mine, I expressed nervousness to my doctor, who assured me that Skyla was safe. Two weeks later, I was in the hospital with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, worried about a potential hysterectomy- at 20 years old. I had come in with a burst cyst, which left me on my bathroom floor screaming in pain. For those two weeks prior, I was a weeping mess. I had suddenly become incredibly depressed, and drained of all of my energy. After the IUD removal, I slowly became myself again. I spent a week in the hospital fighting the infection. Ladies: think twice, think three, four, ten times about using Skyla. I am convinced that Doctors are being heavily paid by drug reps to prescribe this, as my sister was prescribed it from a different one who said he'd never seen a case of PID in his career. Please save your uterus, and your mental health, by skipping this IUD."

For Birth Control "I tried pill after pill for 6 years, hated them all, whether it was bad skin or mood swings. Decided that I wanted to go as hormone free as possible. As a 21 year old, my doctor said that Skyla tended to have the best reviews from women my age. After reading all of the reviews I was spooked, so I took a pain killer before. The doctor did not give me anything for anxiety or the pain. I ended up passing out twice during the insertion and the next two days afterwards were antagonizing cramps. Thankful I had my boyfriend to take care of me. The rest of the first week was occasional sharp cramping. 6 weeks in, couldn't be happier! Appetite is smaller, skin is clearer, zero mood swings, high sex drive, normal periods. Well worth the initial pain."
