For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given a shot of Haldol for gastroparesis-related symptoms at the ER. It caused immediate and severe agitation and restlessness. The worst sensation of my life. I wanted to rip my skin off. They gave me Benadryl to try to combat the reaction. It temporarily lessened the symptoms, but took over two days to get out of my system. I will NEVER take this medication again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Omg, I was given Haldol at the hospital to treat nausea (cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome) and felt INSANE. Within 15 minutes, I felt so restless I had to get out of the hospital in a rush. I could not sit there, and for DAYS, felt weird, antsy, not normal, and just INSANE. My vision was blurry, I could NOT sleep for days. I kept telling my sister and cousin I felt so weird and off. It was the worst thing EVER. Luckily, my sister looked it up, and I started taking Benadryl every few hours, which helped the insane symptoms wear off. I will NEVER ever take this again for nausea. Absolutely not!!!!!"

For Psychosis "I went to the ER to be seen for severe stomach pain and nausea. That's when I was sent back to my room and was given a shot of haldol in my arm. The first 10 minutes were fine except I felt very sleepy. Then I felt suddenly anxious and restless. I wanted to get out of the hospital immediately, and I mentally felt different. I didn't feel like myself and had a very short attention span (almost none). I was generally uncomfortable and felt like it was torture. DO NOT TAKE THIS! I don't know what is in it, but it made me feel horrible, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone."

For Psychosis "When I started this medication for my first psychotic episode two years ago, it really helped, delusions went away. I was taking a low dose for maintenance, around 10 drops (2 mg/ml), which is about 1 mg. I didn't have side effects other than a lack of motivation. Then, after 2 years, the doctor said it was safe to stop the treatment, but some months later I had yet another psychotic episode. This time I am taking 20 drops, and it is making me restless and a bit anxious in the stomach. My motivation is really low, so I find it difficult to start things on my own, my initiative is almost non-existent, so I only do the basics in my life. Probably I will have to take antidepressants too to help with the motivation/initiative, but I haven't started yet."

For ICU Agitation "Was recently given Haldol in the hospital by IV when I went in with some other medical issues. I have taken it once before orally when it was prescribed to me for migraines and severe nausea and vomiting, and it gave me the same horrible side effects. This medication is a nightmare. Extreme agitation, and I couldn’t stop moving my arms and legs, uncontrollable shaking, my eyes, tongue, and face started twitching and moving uncontrollably, I couldn’t see straight. Then my muscles locked up in my legs and my jaw, and it was so painful. I couldn’t breathe because it started affecting the muscles in my chest and stomach, and on top of it, I was so tired it was hard to keep my eyes open, but I couldn’t stay asleep because of the restlessness. I also felt this horrible and extremely distressing feeling of impending doom, like I was going to die and wanted to just crawl out of my body to make it stop. I had to go back to the ER to get medication to stop it. Just horrible. Never again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given haloperidol in the ER through IV. Within seconds, I got a hot flash like the menopause kind, and then I felt like I couldn't sit still. They wouldn't give me anything to reverse it. Stayed like that for 2 hours, then they discharged me. It is 14 hours later, and I'm still feeling agitated and restless. I hope it stops soon because Benadryl is making it worse."

For Tourette's Syndrome "I think about this drug from time to time, it was the first one they gave me for my Tourette's syndrome, which had steadily gotten worse since 2012. I took it in 2015. Thankfully, I was just given pills (who the hell injects an unpredictable drug like this into someone?), I was so restless and uncomfortable. It was awful. I think I managed to take it for 3 or 4 days. The last straw was at work. My stomach muscles seized up suddenly, and it was hard to breathe. I had to have my partner come and get me because I couldn't move. I didn't take another drug for my Tourette's syndrome until 2018, which just put me to sleep. Can't have Tourette's syndrome if you're not awake! Awful. Tourette's sucks, often because the medication to treat it is usually worse."

For Psychosis "I was given high doses of this for psychosis when I was 18-over 23 years ago-and it made me feel like I was about 80 years old, shuffling around, drooling, and not being able to talk properly, combined with such a wretched feeling of restlessness, which is the worst feeling you could possibly ever imagine. It took a good year of my life away before I took myself off it and returned to normal straight away. To be fair, it did the job of bringing me out of the delusions, but if anything, it’s almost a deterrent to look after one's mental health, as I wouldn’t give this drug to my worst enemy….."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Haldol for my gastroparesis. I had slight nausea. But mainly had epigastric/chest pain from one of my 'episodes'. The nurse came in and said the doctor ordered Haldol and Benadryl, IV. Um... OK... I was worried about the Benadryl making me drowsy. But boy, was I wrong. The Haldol!!! I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin! I was restless, agitated, I thought I was going to go CRAZY! I had to keep moving my arms and legs. And all I wanted to do was rest! But every time I closed my eyes, I would see crazy images in bright neon colors. I felt like I was on an ACID TRIP! I hadn't slept in 3 or 4 days from my abdominal pain. I also had to lay still while they took me in to do a CT scan. I really thought I was going to have to jump off of the table and run out of the hospital. I will NEVER take Haldol again!!!! I will be listing it as an allergy! I think that if you are crazy, it helps you, but if you are straight... Haldol will make you crazy!!!"
