I agree completely with the other person that answered before me. I have seen the affects both personally and professionally. There are very few people that SSRI's do not affect sexually in some way. Mostly making it difficult to achieve orgasm, and thus affecting the overall libido in women. To the same issue in men, they either can't achieve orgasm, or can't get an erection at all, overall, affecting the libido. There both cause and effect issues. There are many people where it primarily affects the libido, so much that you don't even want to try. Zoloft is an excellent drug for depression, especially where the side effects are mostly sexual, and I know that sounds like a lot, but when the other options are you were suicidal or couldn't get out of bed to save your life. I think a drug that works actually is priceless at that point, once you begin to feel better you may think "I feel better and I want to try and have a sex life, so at that point you should talk to your doctor there are newer SSRI's where the sexual side effects are not as strong. In addition, there are some other drugs you can take in conjunction to Zoloft that actually might help negate the sexual side-effects in men and women. Lastly, sometimes just getting used to the drug (which can take months) may be all that is needed for that side effect to lessen to a point where you can have a both. I hope this was helpful.
It can lower libido (sex drive) in some women, some women have difficulty achieving orgasm or have both lower libido and inability to orgasm. Some women are lucky and have increased libido with some antidepressants. Or you may have no sexual side effects at all. If you do, however, tell your Dr and they can try a different drug.
