I am bipolar or they think. I have had bouts of depression and I started taking garcinia cambogia and went up on wellbutrin at the same time . I sort of lost tract of time and wasn't acting right so I went off the wellbutrin. But I went back on because I started gaining weight without it. Is 75 mgs enough for depression?
Can you mix wellbutrin and garcinia cambogia?

Hi, j! It's not a good idea to mix Wellbutrin and garcinia as both affect serotonin levels in the brain which can cause unsual symptoms, or even lead to a very serious condition called serotonin syndrome which can be fatal.
I'd be sure to talk to the doctor who prescribed your Wellbutrin. Mixing herbals with prescription medications can have very serious consequences and your doctor should be aware of EVERYTHING you take, including any vitamin or mineral supplements..
75mgs is a very low dosage for Wellbutrin.

I'm sorry WildcatVet but I have to respectfully disagree with your post. Wellbutrin is not an SSRI or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, instead Wellbutrin works more with your dopamine in your brain. I do not believe that this patient would be at any risk for Serotonin Syndrome however I will agree with you that everyone should check with their General Practitioner before adding any medications including minerals and vitamins to their daily regimen. I also agree the 75mg is a very low dose for Wellbutrin.
Happy Holidays!! CGRN
Wellbutrin actually does not inhibit serotonin reuptake, it affects dopamine levels. I don't know if that makes it safe with Garcinia but you're clearly not well informed.
Wellbutrin does NOT affect serotonin levels. Bupropion inhibits the re-uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine neurotransmission without any significant direct effects on serotonin neurotransmission.
Brain transmitters interact with each other in ways that are not fully understood. Raising or lowering levels of one may affect others and their receptor sites.
It is not safe to mix psychotropic drugs unless under a physician's supervision.
