I was diagnosed with TN just a few days ago. I am currently on Prednisone, which will gradually be titrated down; as well, I am taking Lyrica 50 mg twice a day. Fortunately, I have been able to identify and avoid my triggers of hot and cold, and for the most part, my pain has been tolerable; occasionally, I have short, sharp pains in my face/jaw. I am concerned about side effects as I have been tired and dizzy since I started the Lyrica. I also want to avoid the weight gain and would like to have the occasional evening with a glass or so of wine. I would prefer not to be dependent on daily medications. So my question is, can I take Lyrica on a prn basis? Or, is it a drug that works only with regular use?
Can you take Lyrica on a prn (as needed) basis?

Honestly... I believe you can and have been for years , between you an me .. I take it only on the weekends ~100-150mg per day ... It really helps with my anxiety! I can do so many more things with my family With out being anxiety ridden. It just gives me a generalized relaxed feeling. But still able to function ..
This is a good question. While it will be advisable to take pregabalin on regular basis, it has horrible side effects and also horrible withdrawal symptoms. Also dosage may vary. Its effect also varies from person to person. So try on low dose. Also see if you can take slow release form.
i don't know the answer to this question.
Personally stay away from lyrics gabapentin or neurontin if you would ever want to or need to stop those medications withdrawal is a nightmare. They can be nightmares for side effects when starting them to do some research I am sure you will think twice about those medications they really mess up your brain chemically.
take Lyrica only when u feel pain and it makes u spaced out for about a week. so on and off u may never build up a tolerance, and ur on a very low dose 50 is the lowest. ur doc might give up 100 next doc visit .average is 300 but it works very well for my pain, an it dulls all my nervs like a valium. its good for nerve pain i got it all in my foot. it will help hot flashes and pain in jaw. u just got to build up a tolerance so u wont feel so high.
u need to take it regular but im proof it will work on and off
Thank you Richleo
I am on 25mg. I take as needed because I didn't like side effects, even though it helped with the pain. I prefer to deal with low level pain and only take it when I have really bad days than to deal with the side effects.
As Kaismai said Lyrica is a drug you need to take on a regular basis. If you do not think or want to be on a medication daily I would contact your Dr. & explain your concerns & I am sure they can find another drug that you can take PRN.
Best of luck, Kathy
It only works with regular use.
