I lost my sense of smell after using Flonase for around a week. It has been over 2 months and perhaps 10% of my smell has returned. Anyone else out there with a similar experience? Has your sense of smell returned? After how long?
Have you lost your sense of smell while using Flonase?

I have had allergies and asthma since I was born. In the early 2000’s, I think when the drug came out, I started taking Flonase. The loss of smell wasn’t immediately noticed. I was forced to take it for about 2 years until one day as a teen I realized I couldn’t smell skunks. Since I was about 15, I have slowly lost more and more of my sense of smell. I quit taking it over a decade ago. But a year ago fresh meat started smelling & tasting rotten while I couldn’t smell rotten meat. I suddenly can’t smell/taste a lot of bland foods. Some foods I think I rely on memories of the taste now. I don’t cook anymore even though I used to be good at it. What good is a cook that only tastes rotten foods? I started googling in hopes there was a answer, a lawsuit, anything. This is a horrible permanent life altering side effect for me. I hope we all can recover
I have suffered from an upper respiratory illness for 6 weeks now. I rarely take medicines and try to live a healthy lifestyle instead. However, I could not beat this illness. I never smoked in my life. At my first visit she told me to buy Flonase OTC. I didn't since I was on nebulizer treatments, etc. too. When my illness didn't improve she admonished me for not taking all the drugs she suggested. So this time she wrote a prescription for Fluticasone Propionate 50 mcg. I used it first time Tues of this week, Aug 27th. I immediately lost all sense of taste and smell. I figured it was temporary. Here it is 5 days later and I still cannot smell or taste. I spoke to a pharmacist yesterday who said I should stop this treatment immediately. Am waiting it out. Wish I'd never taken this or did my research first, but I figured I'd better do what the doctor prescribes this time and now this is the result.
I've been using Flonase for about 3 or 4 days. It was the generic type sold by CVS. I have totally lost my sense of smell. I just held my nose up to a bottle of ammonia and I could not smell a thing. This is dangerous.
I don't seem to have lost my sense of taste yet but I'm not taking any chances, I'm not ever touching Flonase again. I used to have an excellent sense of smell and now I can't smell the roses in my garden. I hope my sense if smell returns.
I have only been on Flonase for a week and I lost my smell days ago I thought it was because of all the air purifiers I have going on throughout the house since I’ve had all these breathing problems and last night it Dawned on me me I can’t even smell my own poop much less the cat poops in the litter boxes. I went around all my candles cocoa butter lotion’s everything I can’t smell absolutely anynothing. Also my taste buds are totally off nothing taste good. Stopping for Flonase today possibly new inhaler he gave me and also Singulair waiting her responses back from the doctor I already have an appointment with air nose and throat for next week that was scheduled before I noticed this problem. Just found swollen lymph nodes and spleen and my CT scan of my chest awaiting biopsy looks like I have lymphoma don’t think that’s the cause of losing my smell though
I lost my sense of taste and smell after using the Flonase Sensimist for about 3 months. It has been a week since I last used it and my sense of taste and smell is limited to tasting only sweet, salty, bitter or acrid foods. My sense of smell is limited as well. I can smell vinegary dishes and those made with soy sauce but cannot smell very much of anything else. I hope this is temporary and will improve with time.
Yes..I took flonase back in March 2017 for about 2 weeks and over time I realized I could not smell or taste much. Sometimes I have fleeting smells but not much and little or no taste unless it's very sweet or strong and even then not much. I just figured this out having read
Several posts of others losing their smell. This is life changing and I am desperate to find a solution. I may have 10% ability to smell at best. The flonase was otc .What can I do? This is not right and no warning in material. I am concerned that my smell will never return since it has been six months.
Has your senses come back ?
Yes, I used Flonase prescription for three weeks. I noticed on 3/20/16 that I had no sense of smell or taste. It's been over a month and it has not returned. I'm depressed and I don't eat right at all. I just eat something just to fill the void in my stomach. I don't care to go to the grocery store because I'm not interested. I can't imagine this going on for the rest of my life! I'm going to see an ENT doc soon. I don't know what to expect. I hope it gets better for you!
