one of my employees tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines following some consistently bizarre behavior.
She presented a prescription for phentermine and stated that this was the reason.
Is this the truth?
Will phentermine show up as methamphetamines on a drug test?

Since phentermine has a similar structure to amphetamines, a urine drug screen can test positive for amphetamines. This will signal the need for a confirmatory test, which will then show that it was phentermine and not amphetamine or methamphetamine. The original result will then be ruled a false positive.

Depending on the drug screen, it CAN show up as methamphetamine! I was also prescribed phentermine & failed 4 drug tests for this reason. Each time it was sent to the lab to verify.

When it was sent to the lab were they able to confirm that it was phentermine and not amphetamines?

No. It shows up as amphetamines only. Not methamphetamine. I know this first hand from being federally drug tested.

I agree! I’ve read it shows up as amphetamine. Today I will test this theory myself and I’ll come back with the results. I’ve been on phentermine ONLY for the last week or so and I’ll be taking a test just to see what it shows.

No, not at all, but do not abuse phentermine, it is for diet plans and programs, used in a healthy way.

i do drug tests for a living and i can tell you that it will show up almost every time as methamphetamine!!!

does she like the phentermean? I'm thinking about trying it! or quinoa:) bc last year durn Oct. and within 6 months I got put on adderall and WOW it was my first time & I lost literally over 100 pounds!! but once you stop taking it the weight comes right back

I have heard that phentermine MAY show as methamphetamine/amphetamine, but is NOT or it would be a controlled substance. As for the Adderall lady, why were you put on a medicine that IS a federally controlled substance & an amphetamine for weight loss? I take it for Adult ADHD as do many others & the only reason you lost weight is because amphetamines cause you to not want to eat or drink. Why be put on it, if you only wanted to loose weight or did it give you a "high"?
