Each answer is insufficient because the question should be:
Does Tamsulosin work better with food or without food.
Does Tamsulosin work better on an empty stomach or a full stomach?
I asked my doctor if I could take it with food as I am always forgetting to take it 30 minutes after eating. Sometimes it'll be 2 hours when I remember to take it. My doctor just said to follow the directions and take it 30 minutes after eating the same meal. I wasn't going to tell him with my work schedule, my "Same Meal", is not normally at the same time each day. Wish there was a clearer explanation.
I agree with SCG77. Most people take at least one hour for food to clear their stomach and some people can take up to two hours. The directions for the drug don't say anything about how long to wait after taking the drug before it's okay to eat again. I think the question is still open. (But I think a doctor is the person to ask it of, which I'm going to do upon my next visit.) And I've tried it both with and without an empty stomach. I don't see any big difference.
That doesn't make sense to me though because your meal wouldn't have digested within half an hour so it would be almost the same as taking the Flomax with a meal. Am I wrong?
Food will slow down the rate at which Flomax is absorbed.
If you have your meal and swallow the tablet half an hour after you should feel full for a while and therefore increase the rate at which the Flomax is absorbed.
If you wait for 1 to 2 hours after eating to take the tablet it is more likely that you will be hungry soon after, eat, and then slow down the rate at which the Flomax is absorbed.
Once I have reached the maintenance level of Flomax/Tamslosin, what difference does it make whether or not the new dose is absorbed rapidly or slowly? Seems to me the 24-hour schedule and the length of time to establish maintenance level implies a considerable window for dosing.
I see no one answered the question about "How much time before I can eat again?" Any new advice in that regard?
Another change on the original (unanswered) question: Every source I've seen, save one, makes the explicit instruction, "30 minutes after the same meal". I see that as meaning "30 minutes OR MORE after... ", which is usually what happens. My routine-ish use of the drug over the past several years has led me to believe the 30-minute specification is superfluous in the real world, and is still included in the drug's description only because of tradition, and "because we've always done it".
