My father is taking Xarelto 10 mb as a blood thinner for the afib. He had a hemorrhagic stroke and the doctors were concerned due to his age to restart a blood thinner like warfarin. This was a compromise. He needs an antiobiotic for a possible infection.
Which antibiotics are ok to take with Xarelto? thanks?

Hello, I'm actually asking a question for my mother she takes 15 mg Xarelto and just recently had to start taking 250mg Cipro for UTI. My mother's urologist asked that my mother not to take any blood thinners over the weekend. Her first antibiotic was Friday today is Sunday??? Are these two medicines compatible???
Your doctor could try chloramphenicol, and erythromycin if they are applicable to your father's infection. They did not show an increase in bleeding in patients with CrCl 30 to < 50 mL/min [Hazard Ratio (95% CI): 1.05 (0.77, 1.42)]. XARELTO should be used in patients with CrCL 15 to 50 mL/min who are receiving concomitant combined P-gp and weak or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Please note that there is no reversal drug, antidote, for Xarelto. If he is prone to falling, you will need to monitor him closely.
Has He tried Flecanide?
What exactly do you mean, " there is no reversal drug, antidote, for Xarelto"? If he has an event where he bleeds excessively, they will not be able to stop the bleeding? I know the question is general, but does this apply to all incidents? Can someone clarify?
I have fallen twice when walking on uneven, hard surfaces. I was terrified of bleeding. No bleeding but a fracture in both hands and a torn miniscus in my knee, along with a number of bruises. I don't know what kind of fall it would take. I really didn't want to take the xarelto but it was.easier than the requirements for coumadin. I'll be glad when they come up with something to stop the bleeding if I ever need it.
I have been taking Xarelto for 3 years and will be taking it for the rest of my life. The fact there is no antidote and a serious bleeding episode could kill me does linger in my thoughts. I have factor V leiden so I really don't have a choice. I have not had any episodes or DVTs or PEs since I started Xarelto. They say it might go generic by 2021. I will be paying more on medicare than private insurance since medicare prescription plans will not let the pharma companies pick up the co-pay.
