I have had medication-resistant depression since late childhood. taken a LOT of different things for that and my ADD. In the past my antidepressants have helped but I have comt to a point where I feel they aren't doing anything, hence the Abilify.
I would really like to know when everyone takes it? What works for you. Seems to cause sleepiness so is right before bed a good idea? I took my 1st dose (2mg) yesterday at work (I know that was I dumb choice) and got fired because I couldn't keep my eyes open and kept nodding off. What a mess!! I vowed to never take it again until I read eveyone's comments on their experiences with the drug and heard all the positive remarks.
So for those of you who are taking Abilify for major depression, when do you take your dose and why? Thanks eveyone!

I gave an answer to this and I think it disappeared :(
Anywho, I take my abilify at NIGHT. After lots of different trials and such, I found the abilify was the med making me sleepy so i take it at night. Also, when i first started the abilify, it made me sick if i didn't have something in my stomach before or soon after. So for me, I take it not too long after a meal, but also not too far from bedtime. (Since eating right before bed isn't good 4 you)
Hope you can benefit from this... God bless :)

P.S. I take Vyvanse for the extra kick as well... my doctor was hesitant about it since I don't have ADD/ADHD (like said previously) but with major depression/bipolar it helps me not to crash in the afternoon (especially on the more stressful days) You may want to look into it :)

this is very true. ADHD meds do a LOT of depression. (depression is thought to be over active parasympathetic nervous system) It works by activating your sympathetic nevous system (giving you the boost in energy and wellbeing). Its hard to find a doc that will prescribe these meds for depression however since they are addictive -also benzos have been shown to help depression as well as anxiety... also addictive meds-
