What is the difference between a maintenance dose and a normal dose? I am on 50mg of sertraline at the moment and have been for some years, but feel it is not strong enough. I suffer from mild depression which, over the years, has come and gone.
What is a maintenance dose?

Answers
Hi, John!
They're actually is no difference. Everybody responds differently to medications so some people may do well on a low dose, others will need more for it to be effective. There is the initial starting dose (your dosage is on the very low end) and then up to the maintenance for that individual.
Initial dose: 50 mg orally once a day
Maintenance Dose: 50 to 200 mg orally once a day.
Also, sometimes the drug will start to lose effectiveness with long term use. Talk to your doctor because you will be well within the recommended dosage if you increase yours.
