I have been taking opana 20mgs three times a day since my failed back surgeries. I also have IBS and a high level of anxiety. The opana works well it is just a little too exspensive and they are hard to function on while taking because I'm just so out of it. My problem is that nothing handles the pain like the opana but i would like to find a cheaper alternative that is still strong enough to handle my severe pain. what does amitriptyline compare to as far as the pain fighting (strength)? Do they make you feel loopy as well and will they be enough? Have 10 mg samples right now
What does amitriptyline compare to?

Hey mtrice,
Amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, acts completely different on the brain than Opana, an opiate based pain reliever. Because they are so different can't really compare their strength. The amitriptyline may help some of your pain, and won't make you "loopy" like the Opana, but beware you can't just stop the Opana and it will take several weeks of taking the amitriptyline to reach maximum effectiveness. Really hard to say whether the amitriptyline will be enough.
