I thought I answered your question yesterday, & it's been 20 hours since you posted. Are you alright? I had sugested if you were having facial swelling you should call your doctor & go to th ER. Your throat could swell shut, & you could stop breathing. You were having an allergic reaction obviously. I only hope you are ok.
Benadryl Pills or liquid until you can get a hold of the doctor. You need to let all doctors, dentists and pharmacists you use you are allergic go bactrim/sulfa/septra. If you are not much better in the morning after the benadryl, go into see the doctor, they may need to give additional medicine to take you out of allergic reaction. Chances are if you stopped the medication, and take the benadryl you will be much better in the morning. You can also use some hydrocortisone cream on the itchy hives. If your throat swells, or your tongue, go to the ER. Hope you are much better soon. Patti
so sorry that you have had this reaction, I had a reaction to it several years ago and I ended up spending 6 days in the Intensive Care Unit, I am terribly allergic to Sulfa, at that time the doctor told me to make sure everyone (dentists, any new doctor I might see a referral to be sure it was posted on all my medical records) as I saw in one of the posts I was being treated for a bladder or Urinary tract infection you need to be sure your doctor knows so he can put you on a different antibiotic, hopefully Benadryl will work for you if it doesn't do the job it needs to then be sure that the prescribing doctor is aware, it may take care of all of your symptoms but if you have a breaking out and it itches and the Benadryl doesn't kill it out then be sure and let the doctor know. Sulfa is a good drug/antibiotic if you can take it but if you are allergic to it then always be sure that everyone else is aware of it, you sure don't want this to happen again. Hope you feel better soon!!!
the doctor did tell me one thing aftr I had the swelling of the throat, hives, and the anaphylactic reaction that I had he said you don't ever want to have this to happen again like Dzoobaby told you this time for you was bad enough the doctor told me he said if you ever get hold of any more as sick as this made you the next dose you get we might not be able to help you and it could end up costing you your life. it should even be on your records at the chart that is kept in medical records at the hospital, also it should be noted in your current chart in you current doctors office, and even at the pharmacy then if it were ever prescribed and in someway got through the cracks then they would be aware of it. again take good care!
I hope, first of all, that you have discontinued the medication and notified your Dr to put you on a different antibiotic! You can try taking some Benedryl if you are itching. If that is not working you might ask the Dr for some Vistaril or Atarax (they are the same thing really, just a different name for the same med). It will make you sleepy but it helps with the itching. You can also try bathing in colloidal oatmeal like Aveeno to help with the itch on your body. Be sure that you never, ever take a sulfa drug again as your next reaction may be worse and this one was bad enough! The next reaction could be life threatening.
