I was recommended to try Wellbutrin as I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, major depression and anxiety. my brother had a bad reaction once and my mom did as well but there’s no real information for reactions and side effect in women. Please if you have any recommendations or information please tell me I could really use the guidance.

I have taken Wellbutrin 150xl for many years and I have been on as high as a 350mg dose at times. I have experienced what I would call “nervous energy” on the higher dose.
Medications often affect children in very much the same way as the parent, especially same sex children. So if a medication is successful for your mother it most likely will be for you as well and vice versa, defiantly not always the case but for sure very often.
Have you considered getting the genetic swab testing? It’s a simple mouth swab called Pharmacogenetics or Genomind? You could ask if your insurance pays for that and gain a wealth of information about not only Wellbutrin but many medications that could be right (or wrong) for you.
I wish you well. Missy M
Thank you. I will look into the swab test as a possible option.
I've been on Wellbutrin XL 150mgs for about 10 years now and have never had a problem with it. My therapist doesn't want to put me on a higher dose as is concerned about the risk of seizures but I've never had any thus far.
Hi, Courtnee!
I don't know if this will help but my mother, sister, and myself have taken Wellbutrin (bupropion) for years now with no problems at all except some very mild initial side effects that resolved after a few days. I don't know that there would be any different effects in women as the drug works on the brain's receptors and neurotransmitters.
I take it for depression, anxiety disorders, and SAD just like you and it has worked wonders for all of us.
Best regards,

I found it helped my depression and made it easier for me to not smoke while I took it but I too had a bad reaction to it... it gives me horrid nightmares after a few weeks of being on it. Even the lower doses do that to me. The nightmares disappear after I quit taking it.
Hope that helps, I didn't have any female related problems while taking Wellbutrin.
