I am on day 2 of starting Wellbutrin XL, I also take Lexapro, Depakote and Buspirone. The Wellbutrin was added for depression, energy and the weight gain that Depakote is causing. I feel really weird on it. I'm feeling fatigue and confusion and an overall sick and flu like feeling. Is this normal and will it go away?

I have taken two of the four drugs that you mentioned. I have also taken other antidepressants (SSRI, SNRI). Over the course of 5 years, plus experience with these types of drugs in the past, I have found that I am much better off without them as the adverse side effects outweigh any benefit for me personally. Of course, you must decide for yourself whether the pros outweigh the cons or not. Essentially, I am treatment resistant to antidepressants, including Wellbutrin. My primary side effect which spawned indirect side effects, was very disturbing dreams. These types of dreams are worse than your traditional nightmare in that they are, for me, related to real life and real people, and are extremely disturbing. I woke up every morning feeling more depressed as well as experiencing the negative side effects of poor sleep and fatigue. Ultimately, I stopped taking all antidepressants and am now only taking clonazepam for anxiety and panic disorder. You are on quite the combination of drugs that act upon the neurotransmitters in your brain, and I feel that you are right to be concerned. Personally, I believe that you are on too many of these types of medications and they are really messing with you. I hope and pray that you find a solution that brings you peace. Best of luck to you my friend.

Wellbutrin XL may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have:
a seizure (convulsions);
"confusion", unusual changes in mood or behavior;
blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
fast or irregular heartbeats; or
a manic episode--racing thoughts, increased energy, reckless behavior, feeling extremely happy or irritable, talking more than usual, severe problems with sleep.

I ran an interaction check, click on the link below to access the complete report, and I believe that after you read it you will want to further discuss this information:

Perhaps other members will write, "Your DR. most likely is aware of the potential interactions between your drugs and he/she has outweighed that the benefits are greater than the potential risks involved."
