I've been on the Forteo for about 13 months. I had gain 15 lbs in this time. I go to the pool twice a week and walk whenever weather permits or go to the gym on alternate days. No matter what I do with my diet or exercise I cannot loose any weight. I am 65 years old and have never had such a problem with my weight in the past.
Is weight gain one of the side affects of the Forteo?

Although the literature does not list weight gain as a so called side effect it certainly is possible. Just like any medicine it can effect everyone differently. I myself have been on Forteo for 13 months and have experienced minor fluctuations with my weight which I attribute mainly to diet.
I have been on Forteo for a year and I have gained 20 pounds. I haven't changed anything concerning my eating habits and I walk a lot. I'm ready to get off of it because this is awful.
I have been on Forteo for 3 months and Weight Watchers for a month. Cant budge the weight. Never had this problem before. Believe it's the Forteo
I started forteo apr. 22, and since then I've gained 10 lbs and my tummy is just big and bloated, i really think it's the forteo, i run and walk everyday, but i am not losing the weight, pls help
I started for Forteo yesterday, and am hungry between healthy meals. Without a food plan, I would definitely gain weight. As it is, I’m hungry often with this medication. I wonder if it has hidden sugars.
I’ve been on Forteo for six months but within three months I noticed a 5 pound weight gain with no change in diet and a vigorous walking regime. I I’ve also noticed a significant increase in abdominal bloating. My doctor says this is not a side effect but I am not convinced.
All of a sudden I feel my stomach is bloated, I am usually 115 pounds now 119 in the last few days. On Forteo for 4 months now. Many fractures, broken bones etc. early menopause. If I watch my sugar intake and what I eat will it prevent me from gaining! I have a huge sweet hunger all if all the time!. Never before! Is this drug worth it? Help.
I am also Type 1 Diabetic s d have a fracture in my L3. Cannot stand up straight, have to use walker all the time. It limits what I can do.
I have been on Forteo for about 4 months and have gained about 8 pounds.. I eat very healthy and exercise when I can.. nothing else has changed besides the Forteo.. I reported this to them.. They said not a usual side affect.. I do not eat sugar or gluten.. not much I can change...
I have been on Forteo for 8 months and I have not gained weight quite the opposite! I continue to have terrible bone pain (which I had before I started Forteo), I also suffer from Nausea, headaches and terrible tiredness. My Dr recommended this drug due broken ribs, broken neck, broken ankle and wrists. My bone problems started after I had an early menopause at 15.
I have been on Forteo for 3 weeks and have already gained 3 pounds. I shattered my femur in November and still have to use a walker. But I try to watch what I eat. My greater issue is serious sweets cravings.
I don't know if you will see this but I just started Forteo about 3 months ago and have put on 5 lbs. I have always been thin, work out 5 times a week, and do not put weight on easily. I eat very healthy and the only change in my life is Forteo. My stomach has been very bloated, gassy, and I have nausea. I think it is the medication. I was wondering if you are still on it and have you lost the weight since you got off it.
Quite the opposite (see the link below). I don't know what you're doing with your diet, but it sounds like you're in that vicious circle of taking in, then burning calories, no fat gets burned that way. Try 90-days of adequate hydration, eliminate all forms of sugar (read labels, corn syrup, fructose, etc.), including artificial. Caffeine, alcohol, starches, portion control, eating less more often throughout the day. All the exercise possible search fatloss4idiots cannot match what the body can do with metabolism alone. Once we get the right information and realize it's a lifestyle change, not a diet, it is amazing what can be accomplished, and it's so much easier, more effective and no magic pills or mysterious foods, etc.
You can do this. If I did, believe me, anyone can.
I have been on Forteo for 6 months and have also gained 15 lbs. I have been described as "skinny" my entire life. I have NEVER in my life werghed more than 115 lbs. I am 56 yrs old and the only change in my life has been the introduction of the Forteo. So, to the person who made the prior comment, I think you are way off track.
I too have gained weight after 3 months I feel permanently hungry so I am eating more
