I agree. Fluid retention needs to be looked at. When was your last physician visit? Heart problems with weight gain need to be checked as soon as you notice.
For diet, I am sure your physician went through this with you. No to little salty foods. No fried foods, lots of vegetables and fruits, and most importantly you need to exercise daily if only a walk down the block. This will move fluids out of your body, burn calories and help you feel better in general.
Thanks for answering. On warfarin for AFlib. Also, Bisoprolol, Lisinopril for high BP. also, Levthyroxine. See clinic every 4 wks. and Dr. every 3 mos. Not holding fluid. I eat a healthy diet, but everything goes to weight.
Just wondered what others eat each day and how they control their weight.
So many say they gain weight on warfarin.
Ok so your feet or ankles don't swell? Mine do as I am developing pulmonary hyper tension. Eventually congestive heart failure.
I had thyroid removed so levothyroxine is a med I take.
Have you attended a cardio group for exercise and wellness information? We have programs at local hospitals which are very helpful and answer many questions. I attended the pulmonary groups. They are similar because their basis is the same. Discuss medications on a small group forum with PA or nurse specialist. Provide monitoring as exercise is introduced. They give guidelines for eating.
To be honest, one of the best meal plans out there to prevent weight gain is following a diabetic diet. Lots of fruits and vegetables, little sugar or white flour, balance of protein and fats. Count your carbs. Most of us simply over eat because we don't know what a portion of food should be. A visit to a dietician helps tremendously. I do know that no matter the medication, and I take moderate to high dose prednisone which is a well known weight gain med, that you don't have to gain weight once you know amounts of food to eat. After seven plus years I have remained at a constant weight.
I treat food as a medication. I eat four small meals per day. I do have fun. Sunday is blueberry pancake day. I have three small pancakes, a tablespoon or so of maple syrup, black coffee and fruit. Three non-nitrate bacon strips or canadian bacon. I am 5'10". It is plenty. I can barely walk and am oxygen. If I can do it so can you. Karen
I'm sure you are aware of some things re weight gain but a review of current meds may be in order. Also ,are you male or female? Under active or hyperactive thyroid problem?
To answer properly need to know all your meds as there could be adverse interactions along with the cause of you requiring the norcos for so long. Getting a diuretic for water retention, but the warfarin on its own should not be causing excessive weight gain, at least not anything abnormal unless you're diet is bad. Give me all the info you can and I can possibly help you. God bless. :)
Hi Darvek. Female, diabetic as well due to the prednisone. Over 60. Diabetes is almost completely controlled now by diet. It did not start that way. Diet did it. Almost every med I take is a weight gainer for many people. I simply stay aware. And I was never a sprout and lemon grass shake person. Don't touch the stuff. Just using common sense. I teat myself with an occasional round of ribs or whatever. I do stay away from sugary stuff. This was a change. I gave up soda when I got sick. Diet soda is a trap as it makes one hungry. Lots and lots of water or mineral water. No alcohol, of course. Sure I adjusted. But can't shorten my life with weight gain. It will be short enough the way it is.
Had a thyroidectomy. Cancer. No thyroid and always a picnic adjusting the levoxyl. Lol.
More questions? Just so you know, if you write any more forum questions set the original question for discussion. It reduces long strings of comments. Anyhow, ask away. Others will join in as well. Karen
I'm a bit perplexed re warfarin causing some weight gain. Never heard that before!
Hello to you, what other meds are you taking? What condition/ailment have you got? Give details of your food and fluid intake.
