I take 100 mgs(2 tablets) an hour before I go to bed. I sleep through the night just fine. But the following day, Im tired and drowsy. One tablet doesnt work. Im afraid after i stop taking it, that i will have insomnia back again. I have tried everything else for insomnia, this seems to be working but i hate being so tired and drowsy all the time. Any suggestions would be apprectiated.

Less than a week ago, I began taking 50 mg at night for insomnia. It works great to get me to sleep, but every single morning when I wake up, I feel like I'm velcroed to my bed. It's so bad that I'm kind of afraid to take it when I have something important the next morning. Hopefully it goes away, but right now, it's definitely a nuisance.
Was afraid to stop but I did and I made it Advise from a dr and a pharmacist
Helps with time to race care of yourself going slowly lowering dose. With time will go go back to your pattern. I was more afraid than anything and had become dependent on drug. I like to have control of my mind not the drug have control of me' good luck
I mean, take care of..
My doctor told me not to cut it in half. For awhile I was taking just one (50Mg) tablet and it worked just fine. Then I tried to go w/out it and couldnt sleep. Went back to my one tablet and it hasnt work at all any more. I have a 13 month old baby to listen for during the night and Im on Coumadin also, my dr. didnt want to give me anything that would alter my coumadin or that i wouldnt hear the baby if he wakes during the night. I think I have build up a immunity to it sometimes. I too am dealing with menopause, my dr said that is a ongoing thing. Sometimes i think its also the heat of the bedroom (cant control) it seems way to warm. We have an apt not too far from the freeway, which also could be the cause. I spent the last two night staying in the hospital ( 13 month old was in) it was cooler and of course quieter. Even with listening, and getting up with the child during the night, sleeping in a not so comfortable recliner.
I was still able to go back to sleep after being awaken. We spent the night with my brother awhile ago and i slept all through the night. I dont know what else to think. Just I would give anything to have a good night sleep with out sleep aids.
Hi jazzmine,
I just think your dose is a little high for you. Ask your doctor if you could try 125 to 150mgs. You can get a pill cutter and cut them easily. I have the 150s and they are divided by 50 mgs. I even cut one and get 25mgs. That is what I use and if I need more I just take 50mgs. I used to be on 100mgs but have since weaned myself off with my doctor being aware of it. For now I am back on 25mgs, just helps me fall asleep since menopause kicked in.
Have you tried Lunseta or Ambien ? I had to discontinue Trazodone for the same reason, ambien worked very well and so did Lunesta.
I understand as I went thru this. I was on this and stoped 45 days ago. I was addicted to thinking I would never sleep without it. My dr said. Taper off. Melatonim and eventually my pattern would come back. I take 2.5 melatonim and if it doesn't work add another500 mcg from trader joes. Actually it works and even more when I don't worry about it. So yes your right about that. If its for only insomnia I would tell others to be cautious. I became dependent and it causes anemia and can not be good to knock myself out regularly. Very happy that I am not taking it. But it might work for others and I did take it so it worked but I didn't like the physical and psychological side effects. I'm also thinner now and my mind much more clear. (just an opinion)
I have been taking trazodone for a few years. I started with 50 - 100 mg/nightly then recently increased to 150mg. I had the same issue with feeling like a slug the day after and have added 3 - 6 mg melatonin to my nightly routine. It works wonders. The trazodone gives me a full night's sleep and the melatonin helps me feel awake and alert the next day. I too am afraid to stop with this routine since my insomnia was so extreme before this treatment. Good luck jazzmine.
Melatonin naturally adds to next day drowsiness. In fact it us mentioned in interactions.
If you have recently started this medication, chances are that you'll start feeling more alert in the mornings once your body gets used to it. Often, we need sleeping aids to get back in to a good bedtime routine, and a short course can significantly improve sleep patterns. Anxiety about not being able to sleep will cause problems, easy to say don't worry, but take heed in what i have written, you could find your sleep greatly improves even after stopping the Trazodone. I was prescribed an antidepressant (Amitriptyline) to aid sleep, i started at 50mg but have managed to decrease to 20mg with the same effects.
Have you tried one and a half pills?
