I am very tired on 25mg (2x daily) and cannot stop yawning to get my breath. I have told my GP but he says continue with the metoprolol. I am 82 and have COPD caused by my late husband smoking 52 years ago. Can one take this drug when my heart beat is often below 60 bpm?
Tired on 50mg metoprolol per day, and heart beat below 60 beats a minute?

If you have a cardiologist, I recommend asking them as well. How low below 60bpm? If you are inactive, this is not necessarily unsafe, but needs to be taken into consideration alongside O2% given your COPD. If your O2% and respiration rate are within a normal range, and your bpm doesn't go below 45 when at rest, you are likely fine, but if you are seriously concerned, it is always wise to request a second opinion or to reiterate your concern with your doctor.
It is possible that your lower heart rate could be making you sleepy! I know I have run into this problem in the past. Unfortunately I don't have any solutions other than try to get yourself up and moving when possible.
Please take care, and don't be afraid to push your doctor for more support - it's their job to take care of you, after all.
