I'm desperate to quit. 30 plus years and start of emphysema is enough. Only problem is I've tried everything else and this is my last hope. I'm still smoking. Maybe a little less but I'm on day 7 and I am always feeling off balance and in a fog. If this don't work I don't know what I'm gonna do . Taking half at bedtime and whole in am. Which is an increase from two halves a day after day 3. I am so desperate to quit. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi I just want to let you know I feel you, I have been a smoker for 35 years and I decided to quit for me so I can be there for my grand kids. I took/take Chantix when I upped the dose to 2 a day it got to the point I couldn't sleep so I stopped taking two and went to 1 a day and now I get dizzy so I cut the one in half, I haven't really smoked . I wish you all the best and support I know how hard it is.
Hi Chia. I hope that after asking this question 8 days ago with no one answering that you took it upon yourself to contact your doctor to get answers. Personally, this is normal. Your body is adjusting to the medication. It could take up to 4 weeks for you to be at therapeutic levels and the side effects to subside. Hold on a little longer. You can do this. Best of Luck to you my fellow non-smoker. ~ Rose
Hello Rose,
Thank you for replying.. Wish I had better news to report days later but it only got worse. My throat started feeling weird. Almost like it was swelling and harder to swallow. Not to point to were I couldn't breathe but I read up on the possible side effects and it does say swelling of the mouth, face or throat to stop taking it. Far as my dr goes, he's very hard to get a hold of and frankly I didn't want him to say stop taking them cause they do seem to have the most potential at getting the result I need, I decided to go back to half in am and half in pm since that doesn't seem to bother me to the extent that a whole one does and then discuss it more with him next week when I have an appointment. I'm still smoking though. maybe a little less but none-the-less still smoking. I hate myself for it as it feels like I'm up against something far greater than myself..
Hi Chia, Don't give up. There are other medications to help with cravings to stop smoking. Zyban 150 mg SR 2 times a day (there's a generic for this). It also comes with side affects though. I was miserable until I got use to it. You can smoke until you're at therapeutic level. I'm taking it to stop smoking. With any medication, swelling of the face is dangerous. Also, check to see if you can cut Chantix in half. If it's time released, you cannot or it will not work and may give you less than desired results. Chantix may not be the medication for you. You should make an appointment with your Doctor ASAP. I'm rooting for you. Good luck ~Rose
Yes doctor already told me to cut in half to get used to it for the first few days, then up it to the whole one in am and half at night (night was really messing with my sleep/dreams so he said stick to a half then) but the whole on is what's really messing me up. Dizzy for the whole week I was doing that and feeling like I can't swallow and my throat feeling swollen is the problem .. and if I can't take the whole one what's the chance that it works. That's what I'll be discussing with my doctor next week.
