This is why I hate doctors... in my area, they are jerks and care only about themselves and their career... here it is..
The other night, I couldn't sleep. i knew I had a UTI and felt terrible, but dealt with it because I don't trust doctors. Sometimes I can treat it myself with homeopathic remedies and I'm ok,,, but after another sleepless night, I got up around 2 in the morning and felt so dizzy I passed out cold on my kitchen floor. When I came too, my husband was looking over me scared to death, I don't know what happened, but I felt like my BP was skyhigh, so he got scared and called the Ambulance {mistake #!} they came out, and saw I could walk and was alert, so they asked if I wanted to go to the hospital, and my husband convinced me to go. So, I got in the Ambulance feeling very emabressed, and they treated me very badly and told me that I was keeping them from more important duties, I felt like I could've jumped out and walked home. I felt so bad I even apoligized, because I diddn't know what else to say. and I hadn't slept in 2 days. So, I get to the hospital and was greeted by actually a very nice nurse, who was compationate and actually cared.
So, after and urine sample and a bp check {was 184/104} and a 2 hour wait. The doctor came in calling me by my last name, I knew that wasn't good. He said I would not have died from my HBP today, but I would eventually and that wasn't a reason to be there.and then he asked what the problem was and I told him, when he saw I came in by ambulance, he proceeded to tell me that I was a bad person, that someone could have died because I took an ambulance, and that an ambulance ride costs 600$, and then he told me that people die every day because of someone like me and I was "taxing the system", When he left I cried so hard that when the nurse came in, she couldn't understand what I was saying. When I finally got it out, she was understanding and said what he said was horrible and she wrote down in my chart what he had said to me and gave me a number to call to complain, when I told my husband and when he picked me up what happened, he immediatly called that person to complain, after he told her she said,"oh no, not again". So, I hope he got in trouble. I hope I recieve something in the mail for a law suit against him or something but I don't think I would get that lucky. I already don't trust dr anyway, and this confirmed my feelings. I have many diagnosis and I haven't been to my dr for a while because I dont trust any one I have even had. My Grandfather was the lead medical director and an MD at that hospital for 55 years. If he was still alive that dr would've been fired on the spot... so there it is, sorry so long, sometimes I think about it and cry, where is the compassion? What about the hippocratic oath? Its all lost now adays... something needs to be done.. thanks for reading... PS~when I left my BP was 202/126... I left anyway!
This is why I hate doctors... my horrible story?

i had many horrible incidents with ob/gyn drs. when i was 19/20 yrs old... i had appendicitis at 7 months pregnant, but was sent home 2 times in two days..the doc, said it was gas..the rude nurse told me it was my baby moving..when i returned the second evening vomiting, loss of bladder control, etc. a very nice resident demanded a surgeon see me as my white count has doubled overnight... withing 3 hours the surgeon let me know that without the surgery my son and i would both die within days... with it I would survive and my firstborn had a 50/50 chance... my next memory is waking at 5 in the morning in labor..i could not take pain medicine so they could tell when the contractions stopped... the nurses that night were angels... sometime around 7 or eight that morning the labor pains ended and the doctor who diagnosed "gas " popped his head in and wanted to know why i was smiling...
i didnt answer him but i remember thinking "you insensitive jackass' i was smiling that my child had survived..i refused all pain meds the week i was in the hospital..each kick to the 19 staples up my abdomen were painful yet glorious..letting me know he was alive and very strong... Paul was born June 9,1987 healthy and handsome... but my run ins with horrible gyn doctors..lasted 10 more years... my doctor i see now was shocked at the scarring left behind physically and emotionally... so yes I understand your frustration, anger and hurt ..just remember , you can fire insensitive health care workers... i have done it and it is cathartic..try to find the right dr/nurse/for your needs... they are out there... use the internet and get reccomendations from family and friend... no one should be treated so poorly in a medical crisis... good luck...
Dear chronicpainhurts,
I like many others, am sitting here and feel your pain. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I have had very bad issues too in the state I live in with the compassion issue. We definately need more dr.s like you're Grandfather. I only wish I could say something to make you feel better. At least the nurse was kind and understanding to you. May you never have to undergo an experience like this again I pray. God Bless. Ruth
so sorry to hear you went through all of that. Don't let stupid people like that get to u. If u do get it again Walgreen's carries an off brand cranberry urinary pain reliever, its in a blue and white box that within 20 mins will take all ur pain away. Just b sure to drink lots of water, as soon as u go pee it will b a dark red/yellow color don't freak out, its normal. That will hold u over until u can get into the doctor for Cipro or something like it to cure it.
ChronicP, I literally feel your pain and emphasize 100%. Drs. "Practice" Medicine and Hypertension is bad no matter how high! I was released from a GA hospital two years ago with a B.P. of 211/119 I believe. I felt it also. After
coming back home. I went to another facility here and made the B.P. monitor go off. It was high and I believe the diastolic number was like 145 or 127. They tested me and my EKGs were all abnormal and yet No Cardiac Arrest. However, I possess medical records
showing problems with my Aorta. Now,
unless GOD blessed me with a miracle,
that was never treated and yet when I see
my PCP, nothing is Ever mentioned! Last
November my young PCP diagnosed me
with possibly being in the first stage of
Heart failure??? Yet, I am always treated
very non-chalantly at the main hospital
and when seeing my PCP who insists
that I accept things as they are and try
building of my endurance to strengthen
my heart. Wow, if the Cardio condition-
Slightly enlarged left ventricle isn't
enough; I have Degenerative disk trouble
in my Lumbar 4 & 5. My PCP wasn't
concerned when I had my regular appt. I
sadly enough, had to Insist on an X-Ray!
He appears quite indifferent to me and it is sad; he is a nice person. My concern is
that my hospital that employs my dr.,
never mentioned the Aortic trouble. The
facility that tested me is one of the best in
town. What I do is pray, pace myself and
rest when I feel tired. My maternal family
has a history of Cardiac trouble; my mom
passed away before the age of 45. My eldest brother, aunt and sister and
grandmother also has had serious
problems. The last time I went to take the
Stress test, I was told any time the lower, or diastolic number goes to "90" that is
the Stroke Risk stage. I am blessed to still
be here. I spent Christmas Eve in the ER Obv. they monitored my heart, did the
EKG and checked the blood for Sugar,
electrolytes, and heart attack. I left with
my BP @ 154/105. That is not good and
they seem to want to wait to you are at
death's door before they help. I went
because of Strep throat symptoms and
because of waiting on the culture, was
asked of other concerns. When
mentioning shortness of breath, fatigue
etc., they kept me. The dr. said theycouldn't do a Stress test. The last one
I had, showed that the BP was "normal"
and it would not rise under stress. I did
the test with Euphoric type drugs. When I
did the Treadmill, I fell in the arms of the
Technician who Immediately placed an
Oxygen mask on my face. Sweetheart, I
gave All the detail so you could see that
you are not alone when it comes to
Negligence from Medical Physicians. My husband has another concept about the subject. How sad that they no longer use preventive methods, instead they appears to be "bed fellows" with the Pharmecutical companies, in my opinion. The real "Reform" for Health care, is More Preventive methods, less Extremely
dangerous drugs that have so many synthetics till if the sickness doesn't kill
you the meds with 100 side effects will.
lol! GOD bless you, Sweetheart we'll be
alright and being Pro-active Is the Only way!
such a horrible story
you may really have the right to hate doctors
i am sorry
All these abuse stories are just unbelievable. This is atrocious! I work in a hospital in the US, and I know in each hospital there is a required "patient right's advocate". All of you who have been treated like this need to ask for your advocate and document everything. Ask the advocate for the risk management representative for the hospital... read "lawyer". The hospital doesn't want a lawsuit, because it can cost them millions if you sue. Chronicpainhurts... you had every right to take an ambulance to the hospital. High enough BP to cause you to pass out is very serious. You could have had a small stroke, which can cause even bigger strokes. The minute that doctor started berating you, you should have demanded your patient advocate and another doctor.
If you are in a small town, I can see that maybe there is no one else available, but I would do everything you can to make sure this doctor is reprimanded at the least.
For all of you who get treated as if you are of no consequence, or cussed at, you have a case to complain. No health care provider should ever cuss at you or tell you that your problems are not acute enough to be treated.
I understand that those of us with major medical issues already have so many health care bills that the thought of seeking a lawyer to file a complaint against the hospital, doctor, nurse, etc seems too much money, but there are those lawyers that will take on your case for free and take their fee from what they get for you from the hospital.
One suggestion, chronicpainhurts... you have to get your BP under control. All of your other systems are being stressed by having a high BP. You are seriously affecting your health. Even if you have to go to an Urgent Care facility before you can get a primary care doctor that will work with you to get a combination of meds to get your BP under control. The Urgent Care physicians will even see you for follow-up visits if you have a recurring problem like high BP like you need. If you have a primary care doctor, you don't need an appointment to run into the doctor's office and have your BP taken just to make sure it's not out of control.
If you have a headache you think is from your BP is too high, go to your doctor's office and have a nurse quickly take your BP. If it's after hours, go to an Urgent Care. Most US HMO plans will cover Urgent Care, and they treat you much better than most ERs do.
For all of you who have been mistreated, don't trust health care providers. Trust your own common sense. You know your body better than they do. Today's medicine is geared towards "get them in and get them out" as fast as possible because the only way to make any money is a high turnover of patients. Don't take for granted that the doctor will even remember you or your problems. Keep documents (ask for all copies of your lab results and x-ray, mri or imaging reports) keep everything along with a notation of all your visits in a notebook and carry it with you to visits. This way if your chart is incomplete, at least you have records of your treatments, drugs you are given, or what you are taking on a regular basis. Don't ever allow someone to give you a drug without writing it down, along with the dosage, and add it to your file. If you aren't in alert at the time, have your loved-one do the same. Make the nurse note it and put it in your purse. This is your right.
It really sucks that we have to be our own patient advocates, but in this age of medicine, this is what we have to do to make sure we are treated appropriately.
That doctor that posted on here needs to get another job. He knew what he was getting into when he accumulated all that debt. A doctor with no compassion is worthless. One that thinks assembly-line medicine to treat only those with heart attacks and bullet wounds needs a serious attitude-adjustment. Every patient should be treated as if their problems are just as important as everyone else. Anything less is butchery. Would they allow their housekeeper to tell them that they are just too lazy and why are they wasting their time by calling them to clean their house when there are people who really need their help because they are physically unable to clean their own houses? Hah! Imagine that conversation!
I have had high bp for 30 years and now it has been tricky to get in under control. I just went into my primary care doc bc i've been upset that my bp is148/80 this morning and last night it was 170/88. I am on 100 mg atenelol two times a day 50 mg of metropolal prn if my heart rate gets out of control. I also take 180 mg of cardizem two times a day as my heart races when my bp
gets high. I also take inspra 25 mg to get rid of any fluid. I really don't feel I have any swelling but the dr is hoping this brings my bp down some more so he is adding aldactone. I cannot take any lasix or tenormin or hydorchlorothiazide as it pumps out too much of my potassiumand inspra is electrolyte sparing. I am a retired nurse. I am shocked at the imbecile who treated you and he should be fired immediately. You need to let everyone you know you need a good dr your bp needs immediate attention. Go to another
dr,another er if your bp is over 165.At 170 I call for an ambulance.
WOW!!! Is all I can say! I've had some bad experiences, but nothing like yours. I had horrible chest pain, that did not stop with my nitro tabs so I called 911. They came (only 5 blocks away) & gave me more nitro which did help, but insisted I go to the hospital anyway which I did. My heart doctor just happened to be walking in the door at the same time they we're wheeling me in & recognized me immediately. He's a sweet heart by the way. He came marching right in to my room & was giving instructions all over the place. Told me I'd have to spend the night & he'd do an angiogram in the morning. This all went great Except! The nurse on duty was a complete bitch! I think she thought I got preferential treatment from my doctor & maybe I did, but that's what they are there for. I got there at 8 AM, was hooked up the entire time to EKG machine. She wouldn't answer my call button to even go to the bathroom.
Came in once & said "what the hell do you want now?" I couldn't believe it! I was stuck on that damn cart until 4:30 PM. I have chrontic pain problems. Didn't have any meds with me. She wouldn't call any of my doctors to get me some pain meds or anything for that matter. I asked about when are you going to admit me? "When I get damn good & ready" was her answer. My hubby, once he knew I was alright went home as his health is horrible too. He came back at 4:30 finding me still in the ER & flipped out. He called my heart doctor at his office, & I guess that did the trick. 5 minutes later she came in ,& all she said was "get in the chair you finally got your damn room."I complained big time to the hospital. They called me at home sent me papers to tell exactly what went on & so on. Of course they apologized (afraid of getting sued be my guess). Anyway, they said she was new & they appreciated my input so they could use it for training purposes etc..blah blah blah. They had many complaints about her so don't know if she still there or not. A few years ago mu hubby had two horrible inpatient experiences. The first was they had done severe abdominal surgery on him, & was hooked up to a morphine pump. He keep telling them it wasn't helping him. I kept on his nurse all day. She kept checking everything , so I thought, & I finally had to go home to take care of not only me , but our dog. Gary told me just to stay home as it was a ways to the hospital. I went in the first thing the next morning & he was crying out inpain! I helped to clean him up & discovered his bed sheets were completely soaked. I started to follow his Iv lines, & they weren't even hooked up right! All the morphine was soaked into his bed clothes! So he went 24 hrs. post surgery without any medication. I flipped out! The next surgery for his back,( different hosp.), on a morphine pump again. Well, this time the nurse didn't know her conversions from milimilters to liter or whatever it was, but point is they overdosed him & almost killed him! If I had been there to alert them him breathing was really wrong 6 breaths per minute,he would have died. He had had neck fusion & they had to give him Narcan to get him back. That removes all the narcotics from your system so once again, 24 hrs. post op, & no meds! Just unbelieveable. I now check him out completely eveytime he has anything done no matter if it's a ingrown toenail! Sorry this is so long, but I HEAR YOU loud and clear. You really need to get that blood pressure down girl. And if you are over weight as you mentioned you are setting yourself up for heart trouble & diabetes too. Please get on some meds for your blood pressure. Homeopathic helps, but you apparently aren't eating right so sounds like you need the meds. Take care, & I hope this never happens to anyone else again. Sorry it's so long...
I see from this that it has been a long time but I hope by this time that you are feeling much better, I caught a couple of falls in February but that's not what is important, you are. after all you or the Insurance pays the doctors fee's and it is nothing but right to treat you with respect, I am concerned about the direction medical care is taking I feel genuine concern, I know that we both remember a day and time in which a doctor would not treat you in such a way, My mom is 93 I live with her moved in once Dad passed as long as I have anything to say about the situation I am not going to tolerate poor manors or the lack of care when it comes to such a special person, just thought I would check on you, hope you are better
this started with me when I was 13,
oh yes I hear you and believe every ugly word I use to go because I would have horrific pain and I can recall their dirty remarks and their looks they though I was a drug seeker one day like you I had been through enough (you don't need to hear my replies) makes me angry every time I think about how they did and they are suppose to be the ones that show compassion and care and concern well I got to where I refused to go one day I was visiting the hospital and run into one of those jerks they asked me where I had been I simply said I find it better for my health to distance myself as far from you as possible and if you bother me as I visit here I will make it a point I kept written records everytime an iccident would happen I told one of the doctors I said my family was around to witness your behavior and if you mess with me I will see that everyone from the administrator down and up aagain will hear the nasty little tale I feel your pain and today I have a doctor that won't even use that hospital we have 2 and she admits to the other, once in a while I visit friends there at the old place and frequently I am asked why won't you come back here and my response are you kidding, they are fortunate that I didn't push it farther than I did but the only thing they think about is money, gettingit and don't worry about compassion I am sorry if I upset you this is something that has stayed with me but I lived through Polio, Chronic pain, Selective IgA deficiency and diabetes, I habor no hate in my heart but I feel like what goes around comes around, I completely understand and empathize with you I just wish I could be of more help to you once you encounter something like this you don't forget the nasty undeserving treatment please know I am a friend and I do care and do understand I wish you only the best, my Grandpa was an MD back in the days where he would have made sure you never would have ever touched another patient with an attitude like that but he has past but a man to look up to, please take good care and I do really do understand and I am so sorry
Everything said is so true. I feel awful for u. I have had a slightly similar situation where I am from (not nearly as mean or bad as yours). Mine was more cause I don't have insurance or money to pay, since my dr put me out of work. I wonder if we live in the same place? It all just sounds like my town's main hospital E.R. I am so sorry u went thru that. Don't let your bad experience not take care of your health problems. Don't let them win. I can see u don't deserve this. NOBODY DOES. Please kee your head up.and take care! Good Luck. Anna
I am sorry about your experience from your post it made matters worst, still continue with your primary doctor, because you past out and that needs attention, try to forget about this doctor with horrible bedside manners. When the hospital send the questionairre write all that happened to you it will reach another department of the hospital, so they have to speak to him about it. vtech10
Hey fellow victim (of Hippocratic Oath detractors).
I now know when I hear "trust me I'm a doctor" it better be Gene Simmons speaking on tv.
We patients all must realize there are evil ones in every field of employment.
I too fell under the spell of trusting a doctor and the nurse accomplice of his that injected me with a non-bio-degradable drug (that will never leave my body at all) that my primary cannot identify and refuses to assist me in finding out the name of that drug so I can do my part in getting it off the market, to prevent someone else from getting the shaft in the arm.
Now I suffer constant pain and the professionals (YEAH RIGHT) I went to each had the lost deer in the headlights look on their faces and apparently too stupid to think of someone with experience in the dangerous drugs on the market today to send me to.
I literally cannot find anyone with even a suggestion to help out here.
I won't bore you with my story, but if you do want to read it. You can find it in the notes on my F/book @ Will E Rogers.
There you will find my true story and measures one may take to prevent falling victim to trust in our fellow man (and woman) lurking the halls of medical facilities.
Yes there are fine folks who care, and then there are the rest who just want their paycheck so the party can continue.
Please everyone who sees this, go read my story too, and get educated before it happens to you too.
I'm no doctor, but I care. . . .
It AMAZES me when patients tell me these kind of horror stories. Yours is not the first I've heard like that and it just shocks the crap out of me!! I would NEVER treated a patient like that! There are some people in the medical field that have NO business being there! I'm afraid it will only get worse with the universal health care plan out government is putting in place! This will probably really open a can of worms but it is the truth! Just go visit the DMV! That is what it will be like to go to the Dr! Our government cant run squat and we want to give them power over our healthcare!? Not me!!! On behalf of the nurses I know that would never let this happen-I'm very sorry you were treated like this. It is a crying shame! You need to file a complaint with the hospital. If you have insurance you need to call your insurance company and file a complaint with them too.
They need to know what kind of Drs they are contracting with! If you lost conciousness and your B/P was that high you SHOULD have been there being treated. Losing conciousness IS an emergency and you had every right to go by ambulance!! You did not know what was going on-what if you had decided to take the car and you had a stroke or your heart stopped? You would have been dead or been severly compromised while if that happens in an ambulance they (hopefully) would be able to keep you from permanent damage. Dont lose faith in medical professionals-unfortunately you didnt see any PROFESSIONALS that day but we are out here and many of us care! Please do file those complaints-people like that need to be removed from the healthcare system and that is the only way to do it!
