I am 21 years old, 6'1", and 190 lbs and have been taking 1mg of Klonopin twice a day equalling 2mgs daily for about the past 10 months. Today I talked to my doctor about slowly tapering off and instead of perscribing me 1mg twice a day he prescribed .5mg 4 times a day as needed. I am looking for advice or a specific schedule to go down from 2mgs daily to 1.5mgs a day by the end of 30 days. Thanks your for any help, insight, and information!

I recently got out of a drug treatment rehabilitation center when I entered I was on Klonopin 3× A day as needed for anxiety I am also 6 months pregnant so was needing to taper off the medication which I've been on for several years. they put me on lorazepam or (Ativan) taper .5 mg 4× times a day lorazepam is a shorter acting benzodiapene there for it leaves the body faster for one week then second week I was tapered to .5mg 2× a day for one week then .5mg a day for one week then after that the medication was stopped Klonopin is a long acting benzodiapene lorazepam is a short acting benzodiapene means it leaves the body faster I hope this helps give you a idea it should be a slow taper to avoid withdrawals 3 weeks was plenty and I had minimal discomfort when the drug was stopped completely side affects were mostly increased anxiety and insomnia
Hmmm a three week taper seems pretty rapid especially considering I'm not under the supervision of medical professionals at a rehabilitation center.
You mentioned you wanted to taper in a month and discussed it with your doctor just sharing my experience sorry it wasn't helpful
I meant tapering from 2mg to 1.5 in a month, I've already gone down to 1.5 and by my next appt I'll probably be at 2 .5mgs a day, thanks
Best of luck.
KF.. you must taper slowly from any benzodiazepine. Research the Ashton manual for guidelines. Took me 10 months to taper from 1mg clonazepam
I am off 10 months now still worth withdrawal symptoms although I have been healing as my GABA A receptors are upregulating. There are support groups on the internet that can help you in your taper as well. If you ask me what these are i can reply
It takes a minimum of 8-10 months to taper from that amount at that time.
Klonopin is the nastiest of the benzos because of its extremely long half-life. I was prescribed this stuff about 20 years ago: 1mg twice daily. I now take .5mg twice daily but I'd still like to get off this blinkin' rot. Yes, I have severe anxiety issues, nevertheless, I don't like benzos of any type. I'm going to try and cut my dose to .25 and see what happens. If I can survive that for a time I cut it lower still. I still take one med for depression and another as a mood stabilizer. I'm as retired college professor and had a panic attack during a very stressful study I was working on. So then began my drugging. I often wonder what it would be like to be "normal".
I'm now dealing with severe insomina so the doc prescribed Trazodone. It has mixed reviews. I generally tolerate meds very well so I see how this works. I haven't slept decent for several years. I know this is a bit off topic but I just thought I'd toss it in.
Best wishes to everyone trying to quit Klonopin.
Cheers!
10 months is super long for 10 mg. that 1 mg a month. I hope your withdrawals were minimal as I need to come off 6.
How long were you in rehab and did you bad withdrawals?
