I’ve taken trazodone 50-100mg and found it ineffective for my sleep or as you mentioned “sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t”. But I do like the sedative effects which helps fall asleep faster. You should try taking 100mg. I found that trazodone effects for sleep tend to reduce overtime for some users.
But,
Do you take your trazodone with a meal before bedtime? Trazodone effects are increased with a meal. But someone had told me to take with couple crackers, yogurt or a hard boil egg and it works every time to fall asleep faster.
Try to avoid a heavy meal which may disrupt your sleep and you should go to bed immediately after you take the medication. Reduce blue lights such as: phones, TV and computers etc or the medication may not work.
*Or take the trazodone with a light meal and immediately go to bed.
