im on day 3 of my 7 day treatment of metronidazole tablets after taking my first pill I notice a discharge that came out in the toilet as i was peeing In the restroom, is this normal? And when i take a shower and as im cleaning my vigina i also notice white discharge on my wash cloth, looks like small cottage cheese, is this a sign that it is clearing up, or could it be a yeast infection? the metronidazole makes me sleepy and sick but i think it is working i wont know until i have sex with my boyfriend to know cause that was the only time we would smell it was after sex sometimes.
Does taking metronidazole 500mg tablets causes white discharge?

It certainly sounds like it could be yeast (Candida) infection. Metronidazole doesnt treat a yeast infection. Metronidazole is for bacterial infections of the vagina. Candida is a fungus and metronidazole doesnt kill fungus. You need to get an antifungal like Miconazole. Bacterial infections can smell "fishy" or very foul. Candida fungal infections have no smell and they often appear as small white "cottage cheese like" clumps. Keep taking the Metronidazole but you may also need a miconazole cream intravaginally or a Diflucan pill to take by mouth from your Dr. The metronidazole could be causing an overgrowth of fungus. It is common because it kills bad bacteria and good bacteria indiscriminately and this causes imbalance in the vagina and allows undesirable flora like fungus to grow out of control.
DzooBaby thanks for answering my questions. i did call the docs office this morning and im waiting on a return call from them to get a prescpt for the diflucan. Thanks again
No problem. You may need more than one dose Diflucan, like one now and one after you finish the metronidazole. Remember too, that a slight odor after sex is normal. If you are very sexually active and having sex at least daily, it can lend a lightly fishy smell to the vagina. If there is no itching or burning, no discharge and only a slight smell after intercourse, unless it is very foul or strong, it is probably normal. Semen within the vagina changes the vaginal chemistry a little and sometimes lends a smell the female may not note when she isnt sexually active. Bacterial vaginosis is usually accompanied by a strong odor, yellowish discharge or white to grayish discharge and often itching or burning that can get worse during intercourse. DO NOT DOUCHE, EVER unless, of course, your Dr prescribes it and that will be rare. It is rarely necessary to douche and douching can upset the pH balance and bacterial balance of the vagina leading to infections. The vagina cleanses itself.
The vulva (genitalia outside the female body) needs a daily soap and water cleansing only to maintain health and low odor. The vulva has a natural odor to it, it is never odor free but it shouldnt be a strong foul smell.
the doc prescribe one pill and one refill only.. My boyfriend and I have protected and unprotected sex and we are very active, but he always gets up , ive never experience the smell before and we been together 17 years and i never ever in my life and im 43 , had a smell no where in or on my body so that fishy smell after sex a few times made me feel not clean and ashamed,, but my boyfriend wasnt worried of the smell, so im glad that im taking action and thanks again for your info. ;)
You don't say why you have been prescribed Metronidazole. It can be prescribed to treat a yeast infection but the dose my be different for this. Also your Dr my decide to use a different drug to treat a yeast infection. I would suggest that you see your Dr if the Metronidazole was not prescribed to treat the vaginal discharge. If the Metronidazole is for vaginal discharge then finish your course of drugs and then see. Regarding sex it would be wise to have protected sex until you know what the infection is, have received treatment for it and the symptoms have gone - Take care
