I need some answer. I call my obgyn n left a message. I am very stress thinking it might be cervical cancer.
Im taking metronidazole 500mg and Im having a darkish nonsmelly discharge?

Did you ever get this resolved? I finished my 5 day (twice a day) gel doses yeaterday morning. My period is supposed to start this week (like today) and it's coming out in chunks (kind of like red pepper flakes). It's freaking me out. Any idea what's happening.

If it is a dark brownish or black, it is just old blood. Are you still menstruating?

I mean are you still menstruating or have you had menopause? If you are still of an age to be menstruating, it is just old endometrium (uterine lining shed each month as our "period") shedding. Are you on birth control pills? Antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills and this can often cause breakthrough bleeding from the reduced hormone levels. Often this breakthrough bleeding is old blood that is dark red/brown or even blackish looking. It is nothing to worry about.

If you are on birth control and antibiotics, you do need to use condoms and spermicide for back up if you have sex for the whole time you are on antibiotics and for seven days after you finish them.

Thank you for your support. Im only 33 and my period comes after the 3rd week of the month. My tubes have been tied for almost 11 years. I worry cause I never experienced such thing. I will go to my gyno next week. I hope is just normal discharge. I will let you know what happens. Thanks for the help.

yeah, it is probably just old blood. I have had it happen to me too. My tubes have been tied a long time too. It could have been a bit of bleeding from the infection irritating the endometrium or cervix. Is it brown or black in color?

yep, just old blood. As long as it doesnt smell and you are not having any pain, it is probably nothing to worry over but talk to your gyno anyway just for peace of mind!

I'm taking metronidazole 500 mg tabs I'm on the third day and I had sex, does that do anything with me taking the medication?

There's a good chance its nothing important. Cervical cancer isn't going to warn you its there with a discharge. Stop worrying about that. Your dr may order an antibiotic for you.

Im already taking antibiotics. I never had such strange discharge. I am worry it feels gross. Could it be a side effect from the metronidazole?
